As a Civil Enginneer in Québec I approve this video ! Fun fact, in Canada, Engineers wears a iron ring on there small finger on hand they write with. We wear it a reminder of our responsability as an engineer.

Yes, Canada! I like Canada. :) It's a shame your trip had to be cancelled. Bridge 1: A cantilever bridge! They are always very cool. :) The way its braced is quite cool; very unique!It does look a LOT like the forth rail bridge, but I guess it's so good you can only make a bridge as cool by copying it. Its a shame your first design broke, it looked really cool, but I don't think the muscles ruined it too much. :) A very cool bridge, if a bit stressed in places, but cool none the less! Bridge 2: Lots of pillars! Looks like stacked bricks, just grey instead of red. :) I didn't realise that there were any bridges going from the USA to Canada, being that their border is mostly land, but it makes some sense. (the truss is a Pratt truss). Is this the first time you've used a sloped road on your world tour? I may just be misremembering but i don't think you have before. That arch is really cool! Lots of nodes! I'm surprised it held with all those trapezoids. :P It's a bit sad that such a cool bridge is getting demolished :( The wobble is very cool but not what i would want on my bridge! :) Bridge 3: Requested by the devs so it has to be good! That is one awesome arch! I could probably of predicted that it would collapse, but its a bit of a shame that it broke however, but the steel is fine. :) Those cross braces look pretty cool, I'm surprised it still held after you added them. I think the pillar terrain was an interesting choice; I would've gone for regular terrain but whatever floats your boat. The bridge looks very cool! Shame you needed to scrap the van. (the image you showed was not an architectural cartoon, but was an architectural render; people use these to convince local councils to give them planning permission) Conclusion: This was a great episode; lots of unique bridges. Personally, my favourite was the second one, purely because of the wobble! :P Can't wait for the next video! :) :) :)

Nearly the entirety of the USA border with Ontario, Canada is water, as it follows the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence waterway (the border goes south of the river beginning in Quebec, when moving east), which also forms the majority of overland traffic between the countries. The Peace Bridge spans the Niagara River between Fort Erie & Buffalo, NY. It's a nice bridge. Others are found at Niagara Falls (Rainbow Bridge, named for the permanent rainbow caused by the discharge of the waterfalls), several others spanning the relatively narrow canyon downstream of the falls, Thousand Islands (near Kingston, ON where Lake Ontario ends and the St. Lawrence begins), Sarnia/Port Huron (Blue Water Bridge(s)), Sault Ste. Marie (in the narrows between Lake Superior & Lake Huron, the International Bridge is actually a series of bridges crossing river and locks over a sprawling 4.5 km), and Fort Francis/International Falls (west of Lake Superior as the Ontario/Minnesota border follows the Rainy River to Lake of the Woods). My favourite, though, is the enormous Ambassador Bridge connecting Windsor & Detroit, and carries 25% of trade between Canada & USA. It's a beautiful suspension bridge whose central span of 560m was the longest in the world at time of construction in 1929 (until 1931 and the George Washington Bridge in NY/NJ). It's old, problematic to the surrounding community, and at the heart of a long, long controversy of a scheming billionaire to profit indefinitely off tax concessions made when the bridge was being built, but it's still just so cool. Bridges are the best.
@smudgeone3 жыл бұрын
"if you're in the area of Canada and the US" I'm over 3500km away from the peace bridge but I'm also 300km from the US. It really is amusing when people demonstrate that they don't understand how big these two countries are.

Its cantilevered, you could take the middle out and it theoretically wouldn't collapse. The main advantages are, its self supporting during construction & simple compressive loading on the foundation, as well as swing bridges, which are just about the most robust, safest retraction method, if a tad slow.

The Humber Bridge. This bridge has acted as some weird beacon in my life even though I live around 80 miles away from it. One instance riding my 100cc motorcycle over it after I mistakenly headed towards it instead of the Dunham Bridge on my way back from a Skegness day trip. This ended up being extremely expensive as the fuel ran out with me as a learner trying to use an emergency path home to Nottinghamshire on the M180.. Impound Fees, Fines, Insurance, Retrieval cost (Attempted 3 times) each time costing £££s And secondly, in a life boat dingy, adrift, passing under it with 4 naval ships following me up. This was happening because the twin keeled hull of the yacht I was helping to crew hit a sand bank around 10 miles downstream from the bridge and I had around 50 meters of rope handed me so I could get to shore and "Pull them off" LOL The yacht was a 42ft wooden 5 berth.. All ended up OK It was my 21st birthday and I didn't think I'd be seeing much more after this, now hilarious adventure I shared with the Skipper (Who was my employer at the time).. Unfortunately no longer around :( But, yes many fond memories of those boat moving adventures.

Walterdale bridge was the replacement to the existing low level bridge that used to run across the river and make a fun sound when you drove through it

The Quebec bridge was literally built over a native burial ground and it is said to be cursed. One collapse killed 75 people. Because of his Canadian engineers receive iron rings to wear upon graduation made (at least originally) from the salvage of the first two bridges.

Also the boat is basically a relic that slowly goes down the river towards Niagara falls by around 7 feet every year due to the current, it has been there for years all rusty n stuff
