I am absolutely heartbroken for Christine. I AM IN THE US AND HAD AN EXTREMELY SIMILAR EXPERIENCE. My ex as well as this sick monster are both sociopaths!! My ex swept me, my family and my friends off my feet. He was a "conman" but not to get money from me. He had a serious mental issue I found out later. Was a pathological liar and went to extreme lengths to hide his past and like a bad movie I ended up finding out so many things later - like he had had 2 previous wives and a daughter. While we were engaged I became pregnant as well. Good for her that she will not let her experience make her bitter. Unfortunately since I had to battle the court system to ensure he got supervised visitation with my son, and I had very little money and he came from wealth, it turned into a 10 year battle and a nightmare....He totally ruined my life! People who are in a vulnerable state tend to believe deceptions a little easier because they want to find hope in this world. I'm going to chalk it up to that, because listening to her story there were red flags and she did not recognize it. Also she made decisions (she was conned but not forced), so for example putting up your house for him to get money was a choice she made. She had been through a divorce she should have been wary of financial battles and perhaps be a little more cautious. Sad really, lovely lady.
