Learn to paint an eye in acrylic, following this tutorial! This video showcases my steps in how I paint realistic eyes in all of my wildlife/pet portrait paintings. It is definitely not the only way to paint eyes, so I encourage you to have fun and experiment.

Congrats on the first tutorial! I like the 11:00 mark that actually talks about fixing an error/forgotten part - I think a lot of people learning to do art don't get it right the first time and feel really disheartened. Nice to remind people that even the pros need to do touch-ups sometimes!

Thank-you! I'm glad! I can definitely understand getting impatient with painting. I tend to rush the ending of my paintings when I see the finish line in sight. I often recommend doing the eyes first, as it sets the tone of the painting and to make sure I get the likeness. Maybe that'll force you to take your time, and when your brain is most fresh? I hope this helps! I appreciate the support! :)

@cassydraws yes I seen it. When you first started to learn to paint was it better to start learning how to do specific areas (like the eyes) before you started to do the whole head? I have problems learning the blocking in without over painting

Don't apologize! I am happy to help. The yellow colour I am using is Cadmium Yellow Medium Hue, from Grumbacher Academy Acrylics. I believe I may have mixed some Titanium White in there as well, to create a softer yellow. You can use whichever yellow you prefer! There are no rules in art! :)

I paint with with wax... I am having trouble with eyes on my animals as my paintings are small (8x8) can you offer any suggestions to make them more realistic?
@cassydraws
@cassydraws 5 ай бұрын
Although I have no experience with painting in wax, painting small definitely can be a challenge - and I've had my fair share of smaller paintings over the years. I found what worked for me was to cut back on a lot of the details, and only pick the most important ones to the overall feeling of the painting. I found that when your details become too heavy, it can become overwhelming on a small canvas. In addition to this, I used a lot of glazing to help with shadows, and other colour applications to my acrylic. (Not sure if that is possible with wax, but I found it helpful with acrylic!) Using a 000 brush was also a very helpful size brush to use, to allow for smaller details like catch lights in the eyes, etc. :) I hope this helps! ♥
