We did a massive declutter in 2023. We had a furnace puffback, so our entire house was packed up, we moved out and everything had to be painted. When we moved back in, we went through everything we owned and filled the back of my SUV I think it was 8 times to donate. That didn’t include all the the furniture we gave away or put by the side of the road for free. It feels amazing to not have a house full of stuff. We love what we have. We use what we have and if we find something we love we can buy it without feeling overwhelmed, but honestly, that doesn’t happen much. Each holiday season we’ve decluttered decorations as we’ve put them out and got rid of so much that just wasn’t our style anymore, was broken or just ready for a new home.

Hate the reason but that's awesome that you were able to go through so much! Makes me wish I would ave taken a photo of my SUV because it was PACKED!!! 😝 It's nice to find the balance that works for your family on how much is in the home.

Ashley, you've done an amazing job here today! One thing we learned with raising 4 children is that they play much better and for longer periods of time if they only have a few toys. They have studies showing this now, we figured it out by trial and error. Lol We chose toys that encouraged their imaginations, not toys that make noises or large play things. Studies also show that kids get anxiety from clutter. It overwhelms them, just like it does us. You can try and test this by putting out a small amount of toys and box up the rest for 3 months. Only give them something if they ask for it by name. The Minimal Mom has lots of videos about this. Keep up the good work! Great video!!! ❤❤

Thanks for this! I decluttered all the clothing for my imaginary children. I have two (REAL) boys but had WAY too many clothes for my imaginary children who would wear nice jeans, cute sweaters and vests. :) They don't exist, time to let that stuff go and embrace the full time athletic wear.

Currently hiding in my bathroom from my feral kiddos (it’s been a DAY & Nana’s in charge now 🤣😂😎) & our disastrous house (I’ve been decluttering profusely since last May…but I feel like it’s taking forever to do the simplest things). Thank you for letting me hang out with you! It looks great! ❤ PS. I’m with you on the feels! My husband & I decided we’re keeping their finding Nemo baby tummy time play thing because it’s got so many memories for us! I have to be a bit strict with myself though because I would keep everything & with 3 kids, it gets crazy quickly, so I have memory trunks for each kiddo & one for us where we can hold on to things of theirs that are special to us, but might not be so special to them. I also started a “Covid capsule” since my eldest was born right before lockdowns & my twins arrived during the Omicron surge. I think it will be really interesting for them to see when they’re older & (as a former teacher) if we ever need it for some kind of project, we’re covered 😂

@@spoonfulofcleaning I’m glad I could give you a laugh! I forgot to mention that I really loved how your playroom came out! Not that you need more work, but if you’re ever looking for ideas, I would love a little video about what toys/playsets work well for Lucy & Bella to play together being at different ages & stages. My eldest is Lucy’s age & the twins are Bella’s age & I’m struggling to find things (other than a play kitchen, blocks, etc) they can play with together.
