Here in Germany the midday lunch is the main dish when you eat warm, cooked meals. -So dinner -"Abendbrot" (Evening-Bread) is more sth. that you don't get hungry in the evening. Btw.: Interesting that you've taken over the German word "Butterbrot" ("butter-bread") in Russian! (I knew only of "Schlagbaum" and "Platzkarte", before 😄)

When you make your next sandwich, try this: put butter on the bread and toast the buttered side in the pan. Fry the kielbasa a little at the same time in the pan. Then put your sandwich together with the cheese. Add some sliced tomatoes and fresh lettuce. I think that you'll like it.

Parents in Russia are correct about bread not being proper food. For bread to be anything close to real food, it would have to be for example acorn bread. We also used to be served semolina porridge as kids in Poland in 80s and 90s and it was also served as breakfast in coastal and mountain vacation resorts.
@anthonygtama7077

Meanwhile, here whether breakfast, lunch or dinner always uses rice/noodles along with side dishes. Because here, if you haven't eaten with rice, it means you haven't eaten yet or just snacking on food. 😅 Even unusual for foreigners, people here sometimes eat rice and noodles at the same time. 👌
@mik1984

@@anthonygtama7077 Rice, although better than just bread, because of some b vitamin, fiber and mineral content, it is mostly carbs with high glycemic index. I also heard a theory that Asians are slightly more genetically resistant to loss of insulin sensitivity and thus can tolerate a high carb diet more than other ethnic groups.

I believe that the porridge you made would be very similar to what we have here in the U.S. called "Cream of Wheat". You might want to try putting the бутерброд under the broiler in the over for a little while to melt the cheese.

Here we call it cream of wheat, grits, maltomeal, Quaker oats, etc. Depends on what region of the country you are in and what grain it's made of. Corn, wheat or oats. One thing that is not common here is buckwheat. My mothers family are Russian and my Grandmother used to make blini with fresh fruit preserves and tea for breakfast. She always served black bread with butter and pickles if you wanted a snack.

Hello Lisa, thank you for your video about Russian Breakfasts. In Germany, we have similiar breakfasts, especially the scrambled eggs and different kinds of sandwiches. The semolina porridge is also known in Germany, mostly for kids as complete meal, not only for breakfast. And you are right, in Germany sandwiches can be a complete meal instead of dinner in the evening. When I heard the Russion word for sandwich (Бутерброд) the first time in the video, I stopped the video, set it back a few seconds and listened to the word and the pronounciation a second time. The Russian pronouncation is harsher than the German one for "Butterbrot", which means a slice of bread with butter and sometimes a pinch of salt on the top but never with additional toppings. I´m quite shure, the Russion word "Бутерброд" has German roots.

Hi Lisa in UK semolina is served as a pudding with jam mixed in. Porridge is a pretty normal breakfast here made with sugar and jam, but in Scotland they put salt in their Porridge... with the sandwich if you had put the two half's together that would be called a cheese doorstep here in UK. I watch quite a few Russian u tube channels like Survival Russian , he use to be Moscow Prepper, I also watch a guy called Robinson both these guys are about 200km from Moscow . I can't speak or read Russian but find all the homestead and engineering videos..

Dear Lisa, (Лиса люва) I am glad you did not emphasize the habit of drinking Vodka for breakfast. (We Germans enjoy a beer at breakfast). People should no about the "Sober Russia" action-group and that drinking was mostly caused by the Downfall of the Soviet States. I can imagine, but many (abroad) do not understand. If you are Russian, you will. Coming from a German family, I still would to call myself "Slava Ya" (Слава Я) - being Slavic. Although living abroad I still love Russia!! And always carry her at heart! (Please, allow me:) "Родиа моя и Душа моя!" Свет. I am watching all Vlogs by you. To keep informed and updated. I saw the first snow this year on "Red Square"!!! Small celebration. But it kept on snowing for weeks now, so I've heard? With love: ROMY💖

With so much garbage on the internet, I enjoy the wholesome and normal videos! A tip for making porridge with no lumps: Put powder in bowl, add small amounts of room temperature liquid slowly. At first it will be lumpy, but if you only add what is needed as you stir, it will absorb it all perfectly. Once there are no lumps, you can make it more liquid if you want. The culinary term in English is a “slurry.”

As an adult I've enjoyed more diversity with corn grits and fish, refried beans eggs and rice, and steamed buns for breakfast. Was expecting at least some buckwheat and cottage cheese with ultra thin pancakes, you may have a ways to go to being an authentic beloved babushka Lisa.

20 years ago there was a movie, The Matrix with Keanu Reeves, where people were lying in a bathtub and they had images transmitted into their eyes as they walked the streets, ate, talk. 20 years later we live in a similar matrix, only instead of a bathtub we have TV and mass media. I recently saw a video blog about a trip to Iran, and it's so amazing, such a clean, industrialized city, with happy, smiling, fashionably dressed people, not at all like the cannibals as the NYT and MSNBC describe them. So traveling is the only way to escape the Matrix.

@@СимонВизенталь-ы7ь Well to watch movies and to play video games is not the same thing that the TV. With the new releases you can even build your own gaming marvel. TV is when you don't have $ cause of our fathers matrix. There is lot more to do,like to go play hockey and to transform your home. Traveling is more than that if you manage to go to a very very good place.

They are pretty mainstream from my childhood except for butterbrod, I had to go youth hosteling in Germany before I experienced that, although it came with hot black current juice. Hospital was oatmeal porridge with sugar instead of salt, but they redeemed themselves by serving ice-cream after tonsillectomy.

@@lisa_with_love Yeah, dessert. I forgot to say that I live in Scotland and I visited a friend who was in hospital and for lunch, she was served semolina as the dessert. It is very healthy, I think. I might actually buy some and make it for breakfast, because it has a lot of protein in it, so it will give your body energy.
