Hello, I am myself a consultant with 2.5 years of experience, each and every point you mentioned was so relatable, I myself am facing the same things every week. And yes the Fridays are so hectic - Logging hours, sending work schedules to junior associates, reviewing work papers over weekends setting up your calendar for next week's work/meetings everything. It was so nice listening to your points and agreeing with each one of them.

I started my career with consulting and even though I learned discipline and importance of presentation of data and insights, I believe the growth as an individual and as a professional in terms of skillset is very limited. As a fresher, if you have the ability to take risk, I believe it’s better to learn multiple skillsets over running after smaller perks and it will have a long term positive effect on your future.
@InsiderGyaan2 жыл бұрын
On the contrary i think beginning of ur career, consulting can be a very good learning experience…plateaus later
@vaishnaviyadavofficial2 жыл бұрын
@@InsiderGyaan that’s what I meant, like you get the experience for a year to get the basics right and learn what it takes to be particular about the deliverables and then move to more skill based jobs in the early years of your career. I did it for 10 months and that was enough as I got to work on multiple projects and I understood the importance of reviews before pushing out any data that might be incorrect or would lead to management take wrong decisions for the future of the company in the bigger picture.

@ 2.43 ish.. true I agree with your point ma'am. I also really hold this view. but with the same logic can one be shabby with tons of knowledge and experience, when he/she meets the client? after all what does the client want, solution, not the grooming standards of the consultant. This is the doubt which plagued me all through my career. (now @ 65, yet to get an answer to this) your feedback will help the younger generation I guess. regards

Yeah travel is kind of a candy that entices everyone, But consulting just takes you from the airport to the hotel or office and back. In anycase , we had hired greekos and Filipinos for the very reason that their countries visa processing times are a lot less.

All good points Soumi other than the first one. At least in the US there are plenty of exit ramps to other companies once you get a certain amount of functional and industrial knowledge. The rest is all true as someone like me with 8 years of consulting experience would know. The best part of the experience was all the points and miles I accumulated. I presume you have videos on how it is for women in consulting, in the US most women who have been in consulting for any reasonable period of time are highly stressed, divorced and living with their cat.🤣 I guess the reason why one finds so many Indian men in consulting in the US, other than visa reasons, is that they don’t care much about spending much time with their wives and don’t want to sacrifice any pay for a non consulting, corporate job.
