The person might not always know what you intend to mean and should give you benefit of the doubt and express how certain phrases may make them feel (without attacking you, of course) when you say what you say, but it's also important to remember that some words and phrases come off harsher than others when intending to express a sentiment. This was sloppy when I wrote this, because I was kind of tired, but you get what I'm saying.
