Join Defining Moments Canada projects manager Anna England, education manager Amanda Merpaw, and educator Renee Allen as they discuss how to use the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as a springboard for learning about human rights, both in theory and in practice. What do the UDHR’s articles ask of governments, justice systems, communities, and individuals? How can we work together in learning environments to assess the successful application of the UDHR’s articles? What learning experiences might help us understand our individual and communal relationship to the UDHR and our agency and responsibility in light of its articles? In what ways is the UDHR-and the broader structure of the UN-still relevant in a contemporary context, in the lives of our students? This workshop will engage these questions through the lens of DMC’s current project, Realizing the Pledge: Canada and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
