GTA San Andreas - In-Depth Analysis of Ryder [PART 2]

One of the most requested videos for this channel so far...
Part 2 of the in-depth Ryder analysing series will be going even more deeper than the first episode. This part will focus on the topics I left out off in the original episode (like why did Ryder run off during ''House Party'' and such).
I'll also be discussing what could've happened with Ryder's voice actor during the the production of GTA San Andreas, as ''Reuniting the Families'' is the last time we hear the REAL Ryder talking, because the voice lines from ''Pier 69'' sound more like dialogue from his voice acting audition script.

on the topic of how ryder didn’t get a chance to explain himself to CJ, it’s interesting how there was no special cut scene for a pretty important characters death. he just got the boat he was in blown up and that’s it. this is more evidence that maybe rockstar didn’t originally have ryder as being the bad guy and they made the mission where you kill ryder in a hurry and didn’t animate a cut scene for it.

Exactly! Ryder's attitude towards CJ is easily compared to the relationship of Sonic and Knuckles from the Sonic series, or Brian and Stewie from Family Guy. Friendship doesn't always mean that someone has to be nice to you. In fact, a friend that is always nice to you isn't exactly realistic nor interesting.

So true about Ryder on this one. Ryder was not even given a single chance to explain the reason for his action. The GSF rooted for creepy Big Smoke rather than their much loyal Ryder. If anything, his death was not the most insensible death in GTA SERIES ever.

But with Johnny, we had a guy in GTA 4 extremely against drugs, but for some reason he became a pussy whipped junkie in GTA 5/ Felt extremely forced. Rule of cool. I still believe that R* turned Ryder into a traitor during the game's production. Most of Ryder's dialogues don't even hint that he has something to do with the drug bussiness, unlike Smoke who is always shady. Ryder just simply becomes a traitor out of nowhere, it's very out of place.

I think it would've been interesting if Ryder was an ally throughout the entirety of the game. These are just some ideas that I came up with if that were the case. *WARNING* This is long! - During the mission "The Green Sabre", Ryder would've been with Sweet during the ambush at the Mulholland Intersection, helps CJ fend off the Ballas, and escapes on CJ's orders when the cops get close. - After CJ has Cesar and Kendl move out to the safehouse in Angel Pine to lay low, CJ calls Ryder to get him to do the same, but Ryder insists on staying in Grove Street to try to hold down the fort for the Families. - Ryder, in place of Cesar, calls CJ to inform him about Smoke and The Loco Syndicate's money and drug running, having heard it through his street connections. - Due to his continued drug use, Ryder's condition sounds gradually worse when he calls during certain parts of the game. CJ insists that he get clean, but Ryder is too stubborn and continuously assures CJ that he's fine. - Eventually, Ryder seemingly stops calling, and CJ grows concerned about his fate. - Later, during the mission "A Home in the Hills", Ryder is revealed to have been kidnapped by the Vagos occupying Madd Dogg's mansion, half-dead from physical and drug abuse. After the mission is completed, Woozie calls to say he's having his men take Ryder to the hospital to get patched up and sober. - Ryder calls CJ from the hospital after the end of "Riot" about how Tenpenny was acquitted. He also claims that he is recovering fast, and will back on the streets soon to help GSF. - During the final mission "End of The Line," Ryder calls for an update on what's going on before CJ assaults Smoke's fortress. CJ insists that Ryder stay in the hospital to stay safe, but Ryder insists on knowing where CJ and Sweet are to back them up. Ryder then claims he's going to leave the hospital and is on his way to help. - After Smoke is killed and Tenpenny is about to kill CJ, Ryder shows up unexpectedly and saves CJ by shooting at Tenpenny. Tenpenny shoots back and Ryder is grazed, but both he and CJ manage to escape when the crack factory explodes. - CJ and Ryder take Sweet's Greenwood instead of the Feltzer he normally takes to pursue Tenpenny in the fire truck (so all three GSF members can fit in the car). Sweet is obviously surprised that Ryder is with CJ. Cesar and Kendl are also surprised when Ryder shows up after Tenpenny dies in the crash. - During the epilogue, Ryder returns to the hood completely sober, and begs to be Madd Dogg's personal bodyguard, being a big fan of his music.

Clash Bandikute that’s actually fantastic, i would’ve preferred if Ryder died because of his addiction in like a final cutscene where CJ is there on his deathbed saying his goodbyes and shit, not because I want Ryder dead but because it’s one of the better ways to end off the game. I think in the mission when CJ say "I ain't rolling with you no more, man, 'til you off that water, homie. It mess with your mind." he means that Ryder should stop using drugs, and Ryder begins to defend his usage, implies that his life is rough and get's angry, says that CJ can stay off the drugs but he is gonna be a real gangsta and he lives on the edge. And then CJ just mocks him that Ryder wouldn't see reality even if it gave a dose for Ryder. It's just friend being worried about others use, and the addict lashing back for critisizing him. After what we saw in the Ryder's backyard when the mission began, the conversation is related to that.

I read somewhere Ryder's VA quit after the LS arc, it seems that they recycled his lines during the mission he got killed. If that's the case then it would have been impossible for ryder to explain himself. Rockstar was probably forced to kill him off.

Ryder really should have stayed on our side. Rockstar have a habit of lazily ending character arcs, and just characters in general. A shame really, I liked Ryder. They were going for a twist, unfortunately, they often suck at those too. I think they went with the angle of him turning more and more to enemy side, while starting out relatively on ours as you say, the decision to make him a traitor was sometime during development and the story already got a fair ways in. So they sort of wedged it in there haphazardly instead of going back and rewriting the plot to suit this new idea (which would have ruined other plotlines and so on), and to try and shock us all probably. It was a dumb idea, they should have just thought about it and left it alone....As for his final end, yeah the voice actor had a lot going on, perhaps he just couldn't do it anymore so they couldn't round it off and explain the twist to us properly. If the voice actor was always gonna leave for whatever reason, a non traitor Ryder could have died off screen in an accident, or gunfight, or maybe C.R.A.S.H kill him, or Smoke does indeed kill him (But we don't know until we kill Smoke) for trying to rat him out.

Mc Eiht Music is used in GTA: SA and I believe one of his songs is used in the original gta: V, on the old gen console. Something definitely went down, but why use his music in the game if not on good terms?? Unless he doesn’t own the rights to his music. Idk just food for thought... by the way I love these conspiracy videos about gta characters. BooShawna Jenkins i feel like the only reason that would happen is due to a dispute. either personally with eiht himself or with the label who owns the rights to the song. it should be publicly stated somewhere if it was a copyright issue. and i couldnt find anything about an infringement, so it must be personal between Rockstar and Eiht. they werent paying enough for the rights maybe? theres barely anything public about his relationship with Rockstar, which is unusual for somebody who spends months doing a project for somebody. it almost seems like R made legal threats. or has been getting content reguarding their business relationships removed on purpose.

Smoke had big dreams. He was a bad philosopher, sure, but he wanted to be remembered and he knew Grove would mean he'd die one day and no one would know who he was. It can be a legitimate fear, being forgotten- and I think that was his motivation. When Tenpenny started putting pressure on him, he wanted to do anything he could to get out of it. He started selling. But if I remember correctly, he was being charitable with a lot of the drug money he was getting. He fancied himself a philanthropist, but he went too deep. He just didn't want to be forgotten, and was probably deathly afraid of that, even more than of whatever Tenpenny could do to him.

2 last things I forgotten to say: 1) At 10:40, Smoke was in the side passenger seat and takes over the driving when they both bail. Ryder was in the back when he panicked and later jumped up to the front. Even if he wanted to change his mind, he lost his chance as smoke backed the car away. And besides, Smoke would have properly iced him later anyway if he had bailed out on him to let help the Johnson brothers if he was blackmailing him. Heck if they wanted to betray them both as planned, why did they come back instead of letting them die? 2) If "The Introduction Video" was the last part they created created for the game after everything else was completed, how did they get MC Eiht to record his lines if he walked out on the game development because of payment? I think maybe he didn't have the time too record more dialogue and lines instead of getting angry at R* for a low paycheck (Unless it was both reasons). It might depends when all the dialog was written and the voices was record e.c.t during the development and what was changed in what order they started with since creating a film or video game in chronological order of the script is rare e.c.t.

From what I've heard from Kevin, R* actually wanted players to play as three different characters. CJ, Ceaser, and Ryder. However, Ps2 couldn't handle all of that, plus their missions that would have been exclusive to them. That feature wouldn't be mastered and ready until Gta V.

Having Ryder killed off during The Green Sabre would be a more appropriate end to his storyline, unfortunately development windows don't allow for something like that to be possible, R* was probably holding out for Ryder's voice actor to return before Pier 69's development, or already had most of the beginning written out and then unexpectedly had to deal with MC's departure later on, which makes for a hasty writing to get the game out on time.

Something else about Ryder, since he was never meant to appear in The Green Sabre and since CJ was so shocked to see Ryder in Photo Opportunity, I wanna say that Ryder never wanted to betray GSF and still cares about them but after the exile of the GSF members, Ryder is still blackmailed into working for Smoke and was only rolling with the Loco Syndicate because Smoke probably forced him too? And CJ saw that as enough betrayal from Ryder? Is that also right? Like forget about the bad writing for a second, if you only focus on the story, that’s what would have happened right? It's a common misconception that Niko's voice actor disliked how much he was paid for GTA4 but if you actually read his statements he wasn't. His statements were pretty clear that he was more annoyed at his union since he was just paid a typical union wage for the game and he was annoyed at the rules of his actors union with regard to wages. Not at Rockstar. Lazlow also even pointed this out when he was asked publicly at the time.

I think that Ryder should have survived the Pier 69 mission. CJ, feeling bad, goes to save Ryder. He interrogates him, and Ryder reveals that Big Smoke forced him to betray the Grove. Ryder then helps throughout the rest of the story.

2 years after this someone on Twitter asked MC Eiht what happened and he said *"Thats all they wanted me to do"* . In other words, Rockstar didn't know what to do with Ryder after Reuniting the Families. Looking back on GTA SA and how much was cut and how the story still needed work, it makes sense. I just thought of something. If Tommy Vercetti WAS going to be in San Andreas, then maybe CJ could've been his apprentice or something. Tommy could've tried to establish his organization to the West Coast, particularly Las Venturas, and CJ couldve met him through Ken Rosenberg. And then, Tommy could show CJ a few tricks. Maybe help him start his own organization, with a little legal businesses on the side to make everything look legit. I was also thinking Tommy Vercetti would be considered a multi-millionaire philantropist, since nobody knows of his criminal past. Admittedly I havent played Vice City yet (I cant wait too!) but Im sure nobody reputable (or alive) knows he's a criminal unless you count Ken. And he wouldnt snitch on Tommy. Anyway, that's how I think (wish) things went in San Andreas. Also, Tommy could pay off his brother's bail money or use his rep to strong arm some people. Or just raid the whole prison. But then again, thats what Toreno's for. Maybe Tommy could've backed the Families and help them take back territory and wipe out the Ballas and Vagos. What do you think?

I don't think Ryder's voice actor (MC Eiht) left because he felt like he was underpaid. It's most likely because he had to finish his album "hood arrest" which came out in 2003. Likely the same time the voice acting for San Andreas was recorded. MC Eiht also seems to be on good terms with Rockstar. Not only hasn't he spoken out about anything, unlike Maylay, Liotta and Hollic, but he was also one of the people who made the rap version of GTA V's theme "Welcome to Los Santos" where he sung the first verse. It would be very unlikely of to agree to make that song if he wasn't on good terms with Rockstar. Edit: Apparently according to MC Eiht's GTA wiki page he can also be heard calling in to the GTA V radio station "The Lab" to request if they could play "Welcome to Los Santos" and refers to Grove street, but I've personally not heard that while playing GTA V but it's most likely true.

GTA SA remaster with Ryder being a good guy and a option to forgive smoke! In GTA 4 you had more options about people you kill and it would be nice to have the same small choices here.
