I think we can all agree that neither Smoke nor Ryder had any intention of betraying their families. Tenpenny's just that much of a manipulative bastard who would try anything to instigate conflict between the gangs. Smoke had no other choice and Ryder was easily convinced. @DChief94 well Ryder was underpaid, so he left. Thats why Ryder was basically written out of the game which is really sad. If the voice actor stayed Ryder would most likely still be alive at the end of the game. This is hinted as cj never has any scene with Ryder at his death, unlike Big Smoke, who CJ talks to before he dies.

@sambridhathapa43133 жыл бұрын
Its a lesson: dont judge a book by its cover. Smoke came off as a very likeable person while he was betraying his homies behind their backs. Taking CJ's help to do his dirty work while planning with Tenpenny to kick CJ out of LS and eliminate him as a threat. Toreno at first came out as a prick and was kinda a prick towards the end as well but he did not lie to CJ and helped him in exchange for pulling off stupid high risk missions, atleast.

Kinda bugs me that Sweet's and CJ's lines when he calls CJ up are different than in game, than in the short film. In game, CJ's attitude seems rather welcoming during the phone call, he seems sharp with Sweet in the film. However, after watching both of these videos of yours about him, it's clear that he was placed in a catch-22 by Tenpenny. You know honestly it's pretty dark and saddening to see how it all happened. Smoke was pretty much harrassed nonstop and was given no choice but to go against his friends and do something he could never do. He tried hard to find some way around it and couldn't. Made the ending feel a little unsatisfying at least for me with it being smoke just all "I didn't care! Money and drugs dawg, fuck the grove!" where it could've been more "I didn't want to do it CJ I'm sorry I had no other choice, yall were my homies for life." it just seemed like smoke didn't try to explain himself to CJ and apologize for it but rather just acted like he didn't care and didn't love CJ and sweet as family. Regardless it's still pretty depressing when you look at the whole picture. Smoke was threatened and forced to go against his principles and kill those who were practically family to him. Makes you hate Tenpenny even more as a villain and feel sorry for smoke as a bad guy.

So basically smoke subconsciously set up tenpenny's plan to fail by not doing the deed himself, causing sweet to be alive and CJ returning home, and once CJ was home the countdown to the plan's failure started already. Smoke was such a loyal friend that he caused the whole plan to fail even without knowing Edit: another theory of my own. We do all the missions gathering weapons for the Grove street families with ryder, who's already been initiated in tenpenny's drug operation. What I think is, none of the weapons we stole with ryder went to the families at all. All of the time, we store the weapons in some dingy location that's far away from Grove Street, and ryder conviniently always has a very suitable truck/vehicle ready for the heist that he says is from his friend "LB" who's never mentioned afterwards. Maybe crash was providing him with the vehicles so they could procure weapons for the drug barons.

Wait, why wouldn't CJ return if Sweet was killed?
@sambo4166 жыл бұрын
PantMal even if cj came Back he wouldn't expect big smoke so nothing would happen
@PantMal6 жыл бұрын
I don't disagree, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't return to bury his brother.
@PantMal6 жыл бұрын
Fair point. But despite the fact that both brothers hated each other, deep inside they still cared for each other. Maybe CJ would have stayed in order to get revenge. I think it's impossible to know.
@sambo4166 жыл бұрын
revenge on the ballas sure, but he wouldnt know big smokes involvement. Big smoke would just trick cj into killing the few ballas that know about the murder before they can talk. Cj would of came to los sontos and would of ended up just becoming big smoke's pawn at best.

I think he wouldn't have returned to bury sweet. Yes, he respected Sweet but they were estranged before their mother's death. I assume it's because Carl had a very different mentality than Sweet and Sweet resented him for it. He actually does all throughout the game and keeps blaming Carl for his unwillingness to die for the hood. Carl was a way better person than Sweet, even Tenpenny knew it, because he could put away Sweet easily but never did because he could manipulate him. He tried the same with Carl but as you see in the game, he fails to do so. I think Carl loves his family and actually wanted to do better by them but Sweet's selfish ways never let him do that until the end of the game. So no, I dont think CJ would've made it back to bury Sweet because if his mother hadn't died, he wouldn't have been able to prove himself to Sweet.

This game will stay in my heart for the rest of my life. One of the best and still an relevant game till this day but has a really deep and a meaningful storyline.
@arkguy51034 жыл бұрын
I think the reason why big smoke didn't show up on the funeral because maybe he felt guilt because he killed Beverly instead of sweet. Just my opinion
@Bendanna934 жыл бұрын
The genius of this story is it's clear that Tenpenny wants to simply end the gang violence, which is a noble task. Unfortunately as we're playing a gang member, he's the bad guy. Not to mention the grey area his actions fall under. True master level storytelling.

You should be a lawyer, you make a great case for both Ryder and Big Smoke, giving them depth I didn't see in thier characters, despite playing the game several times in my youth.

Nicely done. This is a great series of videos. SA to me will always be the greatest game in history. I've spent more time in that game than any other and I keep coming back.

Nice one, I never understood those lines said by Tenpenny and Pulaski in the intro, now it all made so much sense. Apart from one thing, I'm not sure Smoke hired the Ballas as they're seen in the alley discussing the killing right after first scene with cops (so Smoke just got threatened into betrayal at this point)

How come Smoke had no free will. At the end he clearly says that the money and the power attracted him to all the shit (haven't watched it all, spare me. Just so I won't forget comment about it)
@Raver-16016 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, Smoke initially enter the game only to escape Tenpenny's pressure and possibly save GSF from C.R.A.S.H's hitlist, but as time passes by he finally got caught up by the money and power and thus abandoned his initial purpose and fully betrayed Sweet and GSF
@mdragarg3 жыл бұрын
He took tenpenny's money at the very beginning because the power and money enticed him. Of course tenpenny didn't tell him of the plan to kill sweet until after smoke had taken the money. Therefore, he got stuck in a swamp
