Friendly reminder: Just because a country has a low GDP per Capita, it doesn't necessarily mean it's citizens are poor or lacking money. It's also important to keep in mind that countries in warmer climates, things are generally cheaper because the country can just generate resources instead of having to buy them from other countries and export them there or only being able to produce certain resources on limited times of the year.

This money has been spent on four very costly wars and a very heavy military presence even in times of peace, not to mention all the lives and infrastructure that has been lost. If India and Pakistan were reunited, this money could be spend on education, healthcare, infrastructure, etc. That could result in a growth rate of 9-10%. With the largest population in the world, a united India could give some serious competition to China. *But it will never happen.*

If the sub-continent unites (IF) - The military budget would go down significantly. Less borders to manage and less high conflict zones. - International cricket would die. IPL equivalent would be sufficient enough to run through an entire year/season as some European football leagues. - Political parties would have to be creative to find a new divide to get votes. - Kashmir would be flooded with tourists. - Subcontinent would have a larger rail network than Europe. - Exports (specially agriculture) would increase as the currency would go down slightly. - Might have to adopt the US Fed-State dynamics, where states have their own rules and regulations that may contradict some of the federal rules (except defense).

When Britain strated colonization of indian subcontinent, the subcontinent was divided into many small kingdoms who where constantly fighting for supremacy, which made quite easy for Britain to conquer kingdom after kingdom as they where quite small in size and they didn't take any significant action against British together whenever Britain subjugated any kingdom as the existing kingdoms where rivals of each other. Even the army used for conquering india was mainly composed of hired indian soldiers. If there was a united and stable india at that time, no country would had been able to conquer india as the combined army and economy would had overwhelmed the invading nation. Though it is quite true even today uniting india would be very difficult and even if india successfully conquer entire subcontinent, it will come at a very high price in terms of human life, economy and international reputation.

I thought this video would have a little more analysis on what could happen, rather than just a summation of current stats. So here's my attempt (opposing views are welcome): 1. One obvious change would be that the defence budget could be drastically cut down. For one thing, these countries currently spend a lot in defence against each other, which will not be needed. Additionally, this combination of countries would have a lot more natural defences in the form of the ocean on one side and the Himalayas + Hindu Kush on the other side. 2. Some of this budget might end up getting diverted to internal law & order and peace keeping. 3. The country will have a lot more control of ocean trade with such a large coast line and river systems. 4. The other side of long coast lines is the threat of rising sea levels. Some countries, like Bangladesh, the Maldives & Sri Lanka, are at higher risk and this larger land mass might give them some room to expand to. Internal migration policy will determine how well this is handled. Climate change may become a higher priority. 5. The biggest question, for internal peace, will be migration policy. Although India is one country, we have regular skirmishes internally on internal migration, with some states making policies to benefit their own people. There are also some racial divides among people of N. India vs S. India vs N.E. India. I assume there are similar issues in the other countries. To become truly one nation, there will need to be a strong central policy promoting cross region immigration.
