Just a heads up, this manga hasn't actually finished. It took a break for a few years but then continued on in a sequel series set some time after the events of the first in a world where the creatures are no longer hidden but openly rule over mankind. It's told from the perspective of new characters but as the series goes on we find out some of the old characters are in fact still around and active. Just thought this might be useful information for anyone who enjoyed the series and wanted more but didn't realise it's continued under a new name. The Sequel is called "Starving Anonymous Re: Starving Re:velation" in english.

Binge Reading this manga just before going to sleep is definitely a good plan! Thanks for the recommendation Ryan! I do believe there is a lot of social commentary in the manga, I mean the opening wants you to draw parallels with fast food as a form of escaping the horrible reality in which climate change has just completely fucked the world. I think a big part of the massage is not looking away from problems and how people will always try to justify their acts, eventhough they can be downright horrible (like all wars and genocides).

The artist for this one worked on a series called Apocalypse no Toride. That's one crazy mix of a prison and zombie manga. Dude can draw some horrifying shit.

This sounds a lot like Promised Neverland. 3 main differences: less on-screen violence, it's about kids being eaten instead of adults (complete with mass-feeding chambers), and a better story. In other words, if this one interests you at all, check out the award winning Promised Neverland manga! (Anime season 1 is a spectacular adaptation. Season 2 weirdly compressed nearly 15 volumes of manga into a trash heap)
