Good fishing, fly fish lake Conroe sometime. You will enjoy catching the bullhead Bluegill here.

I lived in Texas about 40 years ago, but never fished lake Conroe. If I ever get back that way, I'll give it a try. Thanks for the advice.

Big Bluegill move out to deep water in the summer, they are not too worried about being eaten like the little ones are. In the evening, they will move in shallow to feed on whatever. That is what looks like happened with you, the big ones moved into your fishing area. Some people get all of the breaks, catch lots of fish, have a great KZbin Channel, tie great flies, live where there are lots of lakes and ponds and can fish in them, yeah, some people have it made in the shade. You wouldn`t know anything about that would you? Those are some impressive Bluegill; I will have the oil heated up and the breading ready to go with hush puppies, coleslaw, and tartar sauce. Thanks for another great video.

Yea, I figured most went deep. With a fly rod it's really hard to find them under those conditions. Just takes more exploring. Thanks for watching and take care.

Great trip! I'm transitioning from ultralight spinning to fly fishing for bluegills. This video makes me want to speed up my transition.

Yea, the fly rod is the best. My arm started to get sore by the end of the trip. Bluegill fight that hard.

Great bluegill fly fishing video.They are soo much fun to catch on a fly rod. Consider debarbing your hooks. Easier to release the fish. Tight lines!!

You should do a video of your Fly rod set up. Reel and line used. Leader material and the specifics that go along with the fly rod set up. Fantastic fish BTW. Great start to a channel.

Brad, Thanks for the comment. I should make a video on my set up. Its nothing special, but I do make my own leaders.

A friend of mine was stationed in OK and had a holder like yours. After a few blue gills he pulled it up and it felt a little heavy. He had several cotton mouths attached.

Yea, that lake is managed by the University of Missouri. They have some strange rules.
@barry4fish197 ай бұрын
@@CallaweginflyfishingSeveral scientific studies have shown that it’s better for the genetics of bluegill populations if most of the larger ones are released, resulting in better propensity to support larger fish and prevent stunting. They did the same thing for a while at the MU South Farm lake. Unfortunately, most public MDC lakes have already gone past their prime, and are over-run with stunted bluegills - gotta maintain good predator populations to prevent that (which means, don’t over-harvest bass or crappie). I always release big bluegill. By the way, the University of Missouri does not actively manage fish in lakes that are on their property, that is done cooperatively with MDC. And, in most MDC lakes, larger bluegill are very susceptible to being over-harvested. A lake the size of McCreadie, it would be very easy for fisherman to clean out all of the big bluegill, during their spawning especially.

Watching a fly fishing video without showing the cast is like watching a baseball game that never shows the batter.

Its hard to get both, with only one camera. In any case, I'm not very photogenic, I think you'd rather see the fish. Thanks for watching.
