As someone who has been through ECT, where the doctors were also misleading, and haven’t been the same since, this show is everything to me. I wish I was able to see this staging so much 😭

I'm really hoping that the critical success of the show will mean it transfers to another west end theatre, or even back to broadway eventually - it's so special and really deserves to be seen far and wide, and the donmar is just too dang small haha 🙏🙏🙏

I watched this production on Thursday and left it saying that if it was the last piece of theatre I saw in my life I would be content and I have never meant something as much as I meant that. That is how a show is done and what a show… act one ended and me and my best friend just sat next to each other in silence for a good two minutes just processing and feeling it all - I have never felt that many emotions at once before or cried that much at a piece of art ever and probably won’t ever again. It was a difficult watch but SUCH a worthwhile one and what I would give to go back and see it again. I genuinely don’t think there is another show and ever will be another show that is that consistent for me - with the music, the book, the message… everything about it. A feel everything musical and one that felt incredibly real and poignant - I left the theatre with so much more love to give and if I had to recommend one piece of theatre it would be that. I agree with absolutely everything you have said and am so glad to have relived it through this review. Still not over it and don’t think I will be for a longgg time to come.

I cried watching this video because not only did next to normal move you, but you put into words what next to normal has made me feel for over a decade - this is a therapy session. In the 2009 NY Times Review, Ben Brantley called it a 'feel-everything musical', and that describes the show to a t. The characters are very unique as are their problems, but the relationship aspects are universal and that's how next to normal gets you. The lyrics are incredible and have many different interpretations, which just makes this show so rich to revisit. Anyway, this was an excellent video! I'm very glad I found your channel! Cheers

Glad to hear you enjoyed the video - and yeah, feel-everything is definitely apt, Ben was spot on with that I think (and especially feel the things that you've been trying to avoid feeling haha)

I saw it at Wyndham and while I had never seen the show before, I thought it was one of the best theatre I'd seen in London over the past year (out of about 20 shows) Maybe cause it was out of preview but I found the dialogue and lyrics super clear to follow ...

Just watched this a while ago. I was also at the upper circle, and trying to see the corners of the stage kind of made me lose concentration a couple of times. But it does linger on with you after the show (I cried for an hour when I came back home). Also had to deal with my mental health for years which had got worse during covid, and I personally relate with Dan the father from the show. I really hope they extend it somehow, transfer to a bigger venue or go on tour

i would have let him leave but stayed myself. When i saw it in the netherlands the woman next to me left in the first act. I get it's heavy but with some research in advance you could have known more going in and your husband could have stayed at home.

You didn't know anything about the show going into it??? Do you do your homework? It won a Pulitzer prize.
