I'm a 59 year old cradle born Catholic. Nobody has ever explained the Eucharist in such a intelligible and meaningful way than Bishop Baron just did for me. Sometimes I forget or can't fathom Jesus is God. Thank you Bishop Baron for pointing out Jesus is God and anything is not only possible but IS with Jesus.

This is so beautiful and deeply moving. I am coming back to my Catholic faith that I was baptized into as an infant, and Bishop Barron's sermons are helping me to understand the faith in a way I never have before. The Eucharist was always a mystery to me and I honestly thought it was only symbolic. This sermon explains the truth of the Eucharist in a way that greatly resonates with me. It's true that the modern world sees only the material and what is evident to our senses, but there is so much more to existence; so very much more. Thank you, Bishop Barron, and God bless you.

I repeat myself, but: “IF” you have not already, please consider going to Adoration of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament (also known as “Holy Hour”). Call your local parish and find out when they offer it. Then, just go and sit in silence in Christ’s Presence. Take your bible. Read scripture, pray, contemplate. Tell the Lord of your search for truth, of your doubts, worries, even fears. Then, be as patient with Him as He has been with you. When you receive the grace to know that HE IS THERE, you will be forever changed. Miracles occur in Christ’s presence - of that I can personally attest.

Bishop, Thanx so much for your ministry via KZbin. Im an evangelical Christian, now attending worship at a a recently separated GMC congregation. That said, I listen to your sermons every time I come across them, and I wish Methodist pastors had your Kerygma. Thanx so much for all you do, not just for Catholics, but to the rest of your non Catholic listeners, who gain so much from your teaching.

I’m a Jewish convert to the Catholic Faith. I was converted by a dream in 1990. Jesus led me to the Catholic Church. My sponsor for RCIA gave me a book on Eucharistic miracles. It made a huge difference for me in understanding what “Real” means. I recommend looking up Eucharistic miracles online, or buy a book. It also makes a difference to make Holy Hours of Adoration. I spent many hours in Adoration Chapels, went to Daily Mass, and studied my newfound Faith, the Church Fathers, etc., from shortly after my conversion, and through a year and a half of RCIA, until I was received into the Church on August 22, 1991. I continue doing all the same things 33 years later. The Grace of God is sufficient. My “Anniversary” is coming up in a few days, and I always celebrate this greatest day of my life, when I received Baptism, Confirmation, and First Holy Communion. How am I celebrating? I’m having the Holy Mass offered for myself!

I once again appreciate how Bishop Barron illuminates this text by showing context from the Old Testament and referring to passages that indicate people weren't supposed to eat animals with their blood. Then Jesus Christ came and opened a new way in Himself, that we could eat His Flesh and drink His Blood, because He transforms them to be His life-giving presence. The last minute of this homily is so powerful.

This was very instructive and clarifying. We Catholics, bless our hearts, can sometimes get caught up in arguing the finer points of the faith. At worst, we can be driven to lend our power to the divisive bickerings of the world. But the Eucharist - this is the bedrock of our faith. To have it explained so thoroughly in this video has both excited me and reminded me of what unites us. Our strength is our unity. Our unity is found in the Eucharist.

As @sandyv2195 says below, all of us, even those who have lived their lives as faithful Catholics, can and do benefit from the amazing homilies and other presentations by Bishop Barron. True to the role of a bishop (the word means "teacher" as well as "shepherd"), he helps us to understand and better appreciate the Church's core teachings from the Deposit of Faith handed down through the bishops over the ages from the Apostles themselves. Bishop Barron is particularly skilled in helping even a faithful, 'cradle" Catholic to come to better understanding and love of the Eucharist, one of the central truths of our faith -- its Source and Summit -- and one of the most challenging to comprehend (like the Trinity). It helps to listen to homilies like this one over and over throughout life. Thank you, Bishop Barron.

Meeting Jesus in the Scriptures leads us to the Eucharist, where the written word attains its greatest efficacy, for there the living Word is truly present. In the Eucharist, the one true God receives the greatest worship the world can give him, for it is Christ himself who is offered. When we receive him in Holy Communion, we renew our covenant with him and allow him to carry out ever more fully his work of transforming our lives. (Pope Francis, Gaudete et Exultate, 157)

One of the most disturbing situations I faced when I was baptized Catholic was that the attempt from other doctrines to sway me by mocking the Eucharist in the Catholic faith. I did not know how to defend or respond as I came from a different religion, and all I could do was to cut myself away immediately from all those who mocked my faith. But when I read the gospel of John (8:47) "Whoever is from God hears the words of God", and John(6:60) “This teaching is difficult; who can accept it?”, I knew by example from the gospel how people gave up. I knew for certain that I was listening to God and I did not give up. I feel the Jesus presence by feeling his peace in the Eucharist, but I cannot explain it. It's a feeling that comes from within.

I have to admit I had problems with this (eating His flesh & drinking His blood), & had wondered why Jesus didn't explain/clarify things for His disciples who complained, "This teaching is too hard. Who can accept it?" (John 6:60). Many disciples then left Jesus (John 6:66). Can we blame them? 😢Jesus' refusal to say that he was only speaking metaphorically (in symbols) can only mean His words are to be taken literally. But without faith & without His Spirit, it's difficult for our finite brains/human nature (the flesh) to understand & accept His words (John 6:63). 😮❤😊 But many EUCHARISTIC MIRACLES had been studied extensively, even by non-believer scientists (& converted an atheist who had witnessed one of the miracles in Argentina 1996), & the scientists couldn't explain them but could only say they're miracles! I believe God allows these miracles to strengthen the faith of those who doubt His True Presence (Body, Blood, Soul & Divinity) in the Eucharist.

Living the reality of Jesus' presence in the Eucharist changes one's life: ways of seeing, ways of acting, of speaking, of being. Never a perfection of being for one's sinful humanity gets in the way, but the 'knowing' that he, Jesus, is part of who I am humbles me beyond description. I see the fruits, as much as I can, and *I know* who's in it.

Every time I hear you speak about the way Jesus says we should think of receiving His presence at Mass, I think about farmers, because they preserve natural resources. I think about having furry friends in my life. For example, when my cat would eat salmon and while eating it, she would happily growl and purr while eating it, she symbolically reminded me to be thankful for the gift of receiving communion. I hope that I will someday get the grace of seeing my furry friends on the rainbow Bridge on my way to Heaven. Thank you, Bishop Barron.

ST. POPE JOHN PAUL II: “It is important to be ever mindful that communion with Christ is deeply tied to communion with our brothers and sisters. The Sunday Eucharistic gathering is an experience of brotherhood. The sign of peace is a particularly expressive gesture which the faithful are invited to make as a manifestation of the commitment to mutual love which is made in sharing the one bread.”

POPE BENEDICT XVI: “The Eucharist has a ‘personal and social character’: “Christ unites himself with me, but also with those beside me, and so unites himself equally with my neighbor. We are all one bread, one body. And this is communion - without solidarity with others the Eucharist is abused.”

I was able to attend 3 of the 4 John Ch. 6 Sunday Masses. The focus of the homilies were God joining with us and God’s will is for us is to go to Mass. The focus was on the laity. The actual word Eucharist was mentioned once. No wonder 75% of Catholics do not believe in the real presence. Thanks for this video Bishop Baron and Word on Fire.

“The life is in the blood.” (Leviticus 17:11) Prohibitions against eating/drinking blood of animal sacrifices helped to prepare the people of God for receiving real life, Eternal Life. Who would want the life of a goat or bull? But Jesus Himself is THE LIFE (“I am the way, the truth, and THE LIFE”). “Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink His Blood, you have NO LIFE in you. He who eats my flesh and drinks my Blood has ETERNAL LIFE….” (John 6:53-54)

Powerful, succinct, and great formation. Thank you for this education, especially on the Eurcharist, which is the hinge from which everything turns. Amazing how Billy Graham could go his whole life preaching Christ and living for Christ yet not participate in the Eucharist and get this crucial aspect of the whole meaning of who Jesus is, wrong. Pray that all might truly know and participate in Jesus.

@@judykammererThe Methodist Church claims they believe in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist, but can't commit to either 'CONSUBSTANTIATION' (Christ's Spiritual Presence: a belief of the Lutheran Church), or 'TRANSUBSTANTIATION' (Christ is present BOTH physically & spiritually: a belief of the Catholic & Orthodox Church).

@@judykammerer I grew up as a Methodist, and we stressed on the Lord’s words to partake in the Holy Communion in remembrance of Him. But, the Bishop’s meditation of the Communion takes a deeper look. He explains the reality behind the so called ritual. And of course the philosophy and the scientific reasoning applied to the understanding of the Communion is wonderfully deep.
