The Eucharist was always a mystery to me and I honestly thought it was only symbolic. This sermon explains the truth of the Eucharist in a way that greatly resonates with me. I’m a Jewish convert to the Catholic Faith. I was converted by a dream in 1990. Jesus led me to the Catholic Church. My sponsor for RCIA gave me a book on Eucharistic miracles. It made a huge difference for me in understanding what “Real” means. I recommend looking up Eucharistic miracles online, or buy a book. It also makes a difference to make Holy Hours of Adoration. I spent many hours in Adoration Chapels, went to Daily Mass, and studied my newfound Faith, the Church Fathers, etc., from shortly after my conversion, and through a year and a half of RCIA, until I was received into the Church on August 22, 1991. I continue doing all the same things 33 years later. The Grace of God is sufficient. My “Anniversary” is coming up in a few days, and I always celebrate this greatest day of my life, when I received Baptism, Confirmation, and First Holy Communion. How am I celebrating? I’m having the Holy Mass offered for myself!

This was very instructive and clarifying. We Catholics, bless our hearts, can sometimes get caught up in arguing the finer points of the faith. At worst, we can be driven to lend our power to the divisive bickerings of the world. But the Eucharist - this is the bedrock of our faith. True to the role of a bishop (the word means "teacher" as well as "shepherd"), he helps us to understand and better appreciate the Church's core teachings from the Deposit of Faith handed down through the bishops over the ages from the Apostles themselves. Bishop Barron is particularly skilled in helping even a faithful, 'cradle" Catholic to come to better understanding and love of the Eucharist, one of the central truths of our faith -- its Source and Summit -- and one of the most challenging to comprehend (like the Trinity). It helps to listen to homilies like this one over and over throughout life. Thank you, Bishop Barron.

Meeting Jesus in the Scriptures leads us to the Eucharist, where the written word attains its greatest efficacy, for there the living Word is truly present. In the Eucharist, the one true God receives the greatest worship the world can give him, for it is Christ himself who is offered. When we receive him in Holy Communion, we renew our covenant with him and allow him to carry out ever more fully his work of transforming our lives. (Pope Francis, Gaudete et Exultate, 157)

One of the most disturbing situations I faced when I was baptized Catholic was that the attempt from other doctrines to sway me by mocking the Eucharist in the Catholic faith. I did not know how to defend or respond as I came from a different religion, and all I could do was to cut myself away immediately from all those who mocked my faith. But when I read the gospel of John (8:47) "Whoever is from God hears the words of God", and John(6:60) “This teaching is difficult; who can accept it?”, I knew by example from the gospel how people gave up. I knew for certain that I was listening to God and I did not give up. I feel the Jesus presence by feeling his peace in the Eucharist, but I cannot explain it. It's a feeling that comes from within.

I have to admit I had problems with this (eating His flesh & drinking His blood), & had wondered why Jesus didn't explain/clarify things for His disciples who complained, "This teaching is too hard. Who can accept it?" (John 6:60). Many disciples then left Jesus (John 6:66). Can we blame them? 😢Jesus' refusal to say that he was only speaking metaphorically (in symbols) can only mean His words are to be taken literally. But without faith & without His Spirit, it's difficult for our finite brains/human nature (the flesh) to understand & accept His words (John 6:63). 😮❤😊 But many EUCHARISTIC MIRACLES had been studied extensively, even by non-believer scientists (& converted an atheist who had witnessed one of the miracles in Argentina 1996), & the scientists couldn't explain them but could only say they're miracles! I believe God allows these miracles to strengthen the faith of those who doubt His True Presence (Body, Blood, Soul & Divinity) in the Eucharist.

That’s the best articulation of something I’ve believed my whole life. So simple to know in faith yet so complicated to put into language. Thanks for the video!

"Eucharist" by Robert Barron. A beautifully written book by Bishop Barron, easy to read and elegantly illustrates our faith and belief of the true presence of Christ.

I don't think I have ever heard it described so beautifully. Thank you, Bishop. Blessings.

Powerful, succinct, and great formation. Thank you for this education, especially on the Eurcharist, which is the hinge from which everything turns. Amazing how Billy Graham could go his whole life preaching Christ and living for Christ yet not participate in the Eucharist and get this crucial aspect of the whole meaning of who Jesus is, wrong. Pray that all might truly know and participate in Jesus.

Thank you so much, Bishop Barron. You are a great gift to the church. I believe in Jesus' true presence in the eucharistic. This explanation affirms my belief and provides me with the rational, explanation to it. Comprehensible to any scientist, theologian or philosopher, God bless you

Thank you Bishop Barron for the lucid description of the Holy Communion. I am a Protestant, Methodist. I’ve never heard such a wonderful meditation on the Holy Communion. Thank you.

I thought that Methodists don't believe in the real presence of Jesus Christ's body, blood, soul and divinity in the Eucharist. My sister left the Catholic faith for the Methodist church because she didn't in the real presence, among other social issues 😞

@@judykammererThe Methodist Church claims they believe in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist, but can't commit to either 'CONSUBSTANTIATION' (Christ's Spiritual Presence: a belief of the Lutheran Church), or 'TRANSUBSTANTIATION' (Christ is present BOTH physically & spiritually: a belief of the Catholic & Orthodox Church).

@@judykammerer I grew up as a Methodist, and we stressed on the Lord’s words to partake in the Holy Communion in remembrance of Him. But, the Bishop’s meditation of the Communion takes a deeper look. He explains the reality behind the so called ritual. And of course the philosophy and the scientific reasoning applied to the understanding of the Communion is wonderfully deep.

My faith build on this; the Eucharist. My Lord n my God coming into me as one with me. I can't explain this wonderful moment with Him. The real presence is with me n us. Receive Jesus with faith in Holy Mass. Amazing

Completing the knowledge of God, the Eucharist carries the incarnation by uniting us to the Being of Christ, whom the apostles, men like us, saw with their eyes (quote from a doctor of the Church). - Thank You for your comment !
