This was great to watch. Takes me back to memory 'card' lane. When I got my playstation in 96, this was my first game I bought. I hated using the D pad because the inaccuracy of driving in the turns and how you scrub off speed from moving side to side. So I ended up buying a Mad Catz steering wheel set up with foot pedals. It did come with a shifter but you can only shift up or down. No clutch. But it was as pretty darn close to sim racing Nascar in one perspective. I spent countless hours of track testing at all them. I created my own binder for setups on both qualifying and race day for each track. I was able to calculate fuel mileage (which I was able to do pretty good at Michigan) when to pit and how to dial in the air pressure adjustments during a race. Set the camber, wedge, wheel lock, shock stiffness, etc. In the garage during practice. I was my own crew chief, car chief, and suspension tech on top of being the driver. I have always had full damage and set the competition to be at 100% or greater. My best tracks were Atlanta, Talladega, Michigan, & Richmond. Tracks I hated were Sonoma, Pocono, North Wilksboro, and Phoenix. I like Charlotte but I always felt that track was moody. You had to drive a tight race car and then it would become loose when the fuel load started becoming less enabling you to get out of turn 4 better. I always drove cockpit mode. Those gauge on the dash indeed operate! You can cause the engine light to flash when oil pressure gets to great. You can overheat the car and blow smoke causing a mechanical failure (unfortunately you can't blow the engine in '96 like you can in '94) Man I'm telling ya this was the be all end all in racing games and even though EA took over by '98, they couldn't do the realism like Papyrus did. EA was more about the visuals. The only 2 gripe I had about this game is the frame rate slow down (but what can you expect with limited hardware from the PS) And then those damn cautions almost never came out and if it did you best watch yourself where the accident is coming from! You got no spotter!

The back of the box says it uses the analog joystick. I tried and its not compatible with the Dualshock thumbstick controller, it needs the old school ps1 analog joystick "that no one has" to do slight turns. But maybe emulation has an option for it.

PC version, you could have custom paint schemes...i believe online multiplayer, but don't quote me on that, the pit road was a janky mess, you'd have to park in the perfect spot for pitting to work, was a total pain in the ass, yellow flags were a super hard thing to actually bring out

iRacing had nothing to do with the original Papyrus racing SIM. iRacing was born from the ashes of the SIM engine left behind by Papyrus/Sierra when they shut the operation down in 2004 due to losing the licensing to EASports. An organization called FIRST (Project Wildfire) who were moders of the SIM eventually became iRacing.

Nope, Papyrus made Indy 500 : The Simulation in 1989 for Electronic Arts, then made Indycar Racing 1 in 1992 or 1993, then NASCAR Racing in 94 for PC. and the track packs or both Indycar/NASCAR Racing, and the tools to convert ICR1 Indy to work in NR1 aswell They also made quite a few other games in the 90s like the PC version of Road rash around this time too in the mid 90s, and Nomad, a fun if quirky space adventure type game. Any time you saw that Papyrus log logo on the box, 9/10 times you were in or a good time, with Road Rash being the 1/10 that wasn't as good as Papy's other titles, to clear up the question of did Papyrus make NASCAR Racing as their irst game EDIT: Whoa that PS1 version got majorly gutted like a fish. PC versions of both Indycar/NASCAR Racing had full season championships with all the tracks, you could edit the drivers, you could save/resume races. It saddens me to see how bare bones the PS1 version is Okay what. Since when do you sneak championship season in among track select? That's just thrown me or a giant, giant loop
