the first three games felt so grounded, so down-to-earth. while the player and character are invested in the plot, there's a detached professional feel to it. the main villains of 1 and 2 don't even know who you are when you confront them finally. the story only got personal (as in "this time, it's PERSONAL") with doug shetland in chaos theory, and that had a ton of buildup and escalation leading up to it. neither shetland or sadono were the climax of either game, they weren't boss battles or quick time event minigames. what happened in Conviction? you storm into the white house to rescue the president who's been kidnapped by mercenaries who took over the entire city... jesus fuck. and the mercs are taking orders from the guy who run's Sam's old spy agency.

+sergeykas90 Screw Clooney. Just get Michael Ironside himself. He sort of looks like Fisher in the face, just get some hair on his head with the right hair style, the signature goggles, get him in shape, he's old, and he actually is the voice actor of Sam Fisher. Very odd to have a Sam Fisher that doesn't sound like him.

"You don't have to use it", is not really a great argument in this case, cause Conviction was designed around that feature. Playing without the execution system is like playing Portal without portals (which is a bit of an exaggeration). Also the narrative is quite the worst I have seen. I haven't seen a video game series fail that hard as Conviction did (well there certainly are some). Great game, not a great Splinter Cell game at all.

Blah blah blah. Blacklist and Conviction are just fine. Even Blacklist allows for perfect stealth. Blah blah blah, you can calculate and be precise in that just as in the others, same with Conviction. They aren't over-the-top shooters unless you play like that, which they offer that play style, doesn't mean you can't fucking play it like the old games, IE, the fucking GHOST score.
@30LayersOfKevlar10 жыл бұрын
Stealth should be the only viable tactic in a STEALTH GAME. Shooter play style should not be offered as an alternative, but punishment . Chaos Theory gunplay was deliberately clunky and unsatisfying for that very reason. It's always better to perfect one aspect, than trying to spread gameplay thinly trying to satisfy many. That's why Blacklist may be a good game, but it's a shitty Splinter Cell game. Nothing can top Chaos Theory, it's up there with Thief 2 when it comes to stealth.
@JamesDidNothingWrong-h6r10 жыл бұрын
It's not a shitty SC game. The stealth is perfectly suited and tailored more than the assault class in my opinion. There are much harder foes and extremely more difficult situations that would penalize the use of loud weaponry. ESPECIALLY if you play it on the realistic mode, which if you think stealth is your option there, you better pray. Sam has moved on from being your typical STEALTH protag; he thought to have lost his daughter in DA, then in Conviction, he was just trying to live on until Grim contacted him. Even in Conviction, you can play quite stealthy. it's the fact that bitching about the shooting is there. In Chaos Theory, you could run and gun all you pleased and still complete the objective. Don't act like it wasn't possible. And it may to you, but to me personally, it felt smooth, not clunky and rigid. But, you need to realize they perfected ALL THREE aspects. Therefore, it gives the increase spread in audience, while paying homage to the classic SC fans. I was more of a Panther, in BL and the old games; silent and deadly. Never bothered with being perfectly quiet and as if I were never there. But hey, YOU CAN DO IT IN THE OTHERS, AND IN CONVICTION, OH, AND IN BLACKLIST. DURR. Know the game before you bash it. That includes playing it and beating it extensively.
@szczurolak10 жыл бұрын
Thunder Hawke Stealth isn't very well made in Blacklist. It just doesn't feel very stealthy, as you don't have too many options. The only way you can hide is by taking cover (why no crawling under tables or something? it would add to the gameplay and still fit the Blacklist's style) as shadows are no longer viable, at least not on perfectionist. If I want to be super stealthy, meaning NO kills, only knock outs/stuns, I must be very careful and patient, especially patient. And the more I play Blacklist, the less patient I become, because it's the same story over and over: wait for the guard to come close or go away so I can sneak further, everything is wait wait wait, too much waiting. I literally must wait about 30 seconds sometimes to make my next step, because the guards are purposely made hard to avoid. The game feels a lot more like a tactical game than a stealth game. The better you know the level, the easier it will be to complete. That was not the case with CT, as you didn't need to know where every guard is to sneak about or clear the area, you could do it in one run without any problems if you just looked around. I thought the challenge Blacklist provides makes it a better stealth game, but after playing CT I now know why people praise it so much. It just feels like a true stealth game. Blacklist lacks that special feeling, because it is limited and dumbed down, has less interesting level design and objectives, rarely happens at night and for some reason Sam is twitching all the time, moving, while in CT he's super calm, which adds to that stealthy feeling. Sam I know is calm and professional, the one from Blacklist looks too nervous and distracted and I feel separated from the character, I don't feel like I am Sam Fisher. Some developers today need to learn what made us identify with the characters again.
@NeroBlack220010 жыл бұрын
I can't agree with that, and here's why: just confining Blacklist to the Tom Clancy video game realm, how do the story and general mechanics differ from Ghost Recon or Rainbow Six? The option to be stealthy doesn't make it Splinter Cell - frankly, Future Soldier was better at utilizing stealth than this. Splinter Cell is about making calculated progress while walking the knife's edge between the prospect of one conflict and another. Blacklist turned Fisher into a one-man blend of Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six, and playing as him shouldn't be about "killing in motion" in broad daylight with an unsuppressed AR just before calling in a UAV strike - it's about not even being there. It's about following one clue tangentially linked to another. It's about countering the weapons of information warfare. It's about stopping threats before they start, not after they've announced themselves.

Man I miss these old games. Thoughtful, patient, calculated. Not open ended or non-linear necessarily, but definitely not the ADD mass-appeal game that is Blacklist today. I think it's so insulting to the old SC players that they continued to use Sam Fisher in Blacklist. Hell even Conviction was an utter mess in relation to the old SC games. Over the top and ridiculous. The last gen version of Double Agent wasn't actually that bad and it should have ended there.
@Frostwolf_10310 жыл бұрын
To me, it ended at Chaos Theory as trilogy. The following games after CT doesn't feel as sequels. Mostly because of lacking references from previous games and how does connect from it. Double Agent break that connection from previous games from the storyline and began new. Over and over again from Conviction and Blacklist.
@WybjornVR10 жыл бұрын
Dylan Lony I would agree. Actually Double Agent for PS2 was decent, it tied in somewhat and made sense. When they started making them for 360, it all tanked. Personally I liked Double Agent, but they crapped all over it after that.

I like how a bank heist mission has a soundtrack like that, like it's vacation for Sam.

This map's level design was so good. Like immersive-sim level good. Wish more games did it this way. Bet a lot of people didn't know you can skip straight to one of the objectives switches by climbing a pipe in the back courtyard, crawling into a vent, then turn off the fan from inside the vent with your wireless hacking thing, if you find the right computer console in the room below you. Took my a couple playthroughs to find it.

My favorite track from this game easily - and also my favorite level in any stealth game ever. What a perfect marriage of level design, story , music and game - it stands out even after many years

Best level and music in the game, hands down(my opinion) Damn this really sounds like Oceans 11, doesn't it? ;)

Right? I was thinking the same exact thing. Especially considering that it was one of the more humourous missions.

I can ghost through this entire mission without killing a single guard on expert while also getting every objective. It is by far my favorite level in any stealth game.

I really liked this song. It's kind of the most lighthearted of the music. It's, for lack of a better term, bank robbery music that has a little bit of funk to it that really made it stand out to me. Also, having Turtle as your adviser was kind of funny!

The only level I kept replaying over and over as a kid to get that 100% rating (eventually got it :) ). This seems to be a favourite level in the fandom, must be peak level design.

how did u get the 100% score
@ded3307 Жыл бұрын
@@codezero7981 Its easy and hard at the same time. Knock the enemies out, DON'T KILL THEM!!! Don't get seen by the guards, don't let them see the bodies, No alarms triggered and complete all objectives to get 100% rating

@@codezero7981it's actually pretty easy once you realize that you can just take your time and observe instead of going into action immediately. fits with the theme too, actually.

Sent here from the memory lane by Critical Nobody. Goddamn, this whole soundtrack is amazing! God damn, if Amon Tobin didn’t catch the right mood of this mission, it fits perfectly! And it’s so damn catchy, too! Fuck you, Zero, you’re no Sam Fisher!

I can literally remember evey damn guard in the level, they were all placed so "believable", talking about a specific topic in a certain way...(smart dialogue) well I just wanted to add that the real/beliveable leveldisign was so damn perfect in that game. You actually felt like beeing there...i`m not sure how to discribe it any better...The problem with the new games is not just that there is so less stealth but a big lack in the feeling...just one example...the level "Bank" felt so real cause of the little amount of good placed guards, while in the new games all enemies are changeable, theyr not unique and of course there a way to many so that the whole situation ur in seems strange. And well one more ( I have a good day) in blacklist ur suddenly (at the end of the game) walking though moving lasers and minefields and bestter equipped enemies just because the game needs you to feeld more challanged...all this seems so out of place (suddenly moving lasers in the ventilation shaft) und unrealistic...but in chaos theory you had them just in specific areas like the level bank were it was at least much more beliveable. well, have a good day (god bless sct :D) sorry for my english
