It is difficult to place boundaries with family because they tend to think they own you even when you tell them you don't like it. Especially if the person is not self aware.

This is very true. It hits us the hardest with family because those are the people that we trust the most, and we really don't want to hurt them. But when we don't place boundaries and allow them to continue hurting us, we in turn hurt ourselves even more.
