So nice to see this while back in the U.S. after 13 years abroad in Malaysia, Myanmar, and Thailand! During those years, I saw Chinese New Year every single year - the first year (2012) was in Kuala Lumpur with some of my adult students from Kazakstan and neighboring countries whom I taught English at a small academy and lived with in an apartment. I also saw it that year in Pattani and Yala in southern Thailand, at the Limkor shrine, in a sort of peace event between Malays and Chinese. In Thailand, I saw it mostly in Chiang Mai, where it's only three days, but the Chinatown Festival and the festival at Maya Shopping Mall are excellent - some activities even went on during the pandemic! Here in New Orleans, Louisiana, where I now live, it's surprising to see a Lunar New Year board in the Whole Foods Supermarket near my house! There isn't much CNY here, but there is Vietnamese New Year, or Tet, which has similar customs - I saw first time last year at Mary Queen of Vietnam Church.

The majority of the audience present are Chinese. Whether they are from China, local Thai Chinese, or Chinese from other places, they are all Chinese. They are celebrating their traditional festival, yet still being criticized by the West?

@@bogodoyandex9654 Yes it's a threat to US hegemony. They don't want a positive image of Zhōngguó
