I had a high school football coach that was this intense. He would be in the sidelines hitting your shoulder pads, your helmet, your chest on the shoulder pads and I remember this one game, he was so excited about me stopping a RB for a loss on 4th and short that when I came over to the sidelines he turned his hat around backwards and head-butted me on the helmet multiple times. His hat has one of those metal adjusters and he was bleeding all down his face... This is a motivator that gets your adrenaline flowing to help give you a little edge over the other guy, not a psycho!! This man wants to motivate people to be the best, win and leave it all in the field. If you lose you have it your all and put it all your effort so there's no disgrace in the loss. Waking up the next day after a tough loss know you still had gas in the tank will make you always think "if I just would have put a little more effort, we could have won!" It's an 80's-90's attitude... So I see why it's not the most popular with the newer generations that were given participation trophies and thought they were winners just for competing.

Honestly, he sounds like an asshole. Intensity and drive to win? Sure, respect it. Lacking sportsmanship is something I dislike a lot though. You can be rivals, maybe even dislike each other, without being a petty asshole at any opportunity you get. Doesn't mean he's not gonna make the Chargers successful though, I think lots of us know a dude, perhaps even some youth sports coach, that these Harbaugh stories remind us of. Abusive, petty assholes that, despite the cost, often enough create dominant teams. Is it an approach I'm highly critical of? Yes. But I can totally see him making the Chargers successful. I think the core of it is that they kind of of force confrontation, they create pressure, and that pressure either results in them rubbing too many people or the right people the wrong way and bomb out, or their intensity infects the people around them and they become successful.

Harbaugh does not have a good NFL resume. I'm glad the Chargers are stuck with him. His NFL "experience" amounts to 2 years as a QB coach for the Raiders, a long absence as a college coach and then returned to the NFL as 49ers head coach for 4 years. Jim Harbaugh played QB in the NFL for 14 years and he wasn't particularly good. He only made the Pro Bowl once and the year that he did wasn't very impressive. He liked to run the ball, was unimpressive as a passer with a lifetime completion percentage under 60%. He played from 1987 thru 2000, a time when the benchmark for a good QB was 4,000 yards passing and a completion percentage in the low to mid 60s. Only once in his career did he manage to play all 16 games because he was frequently injured. That 16 game season was his best in yards thrown, 3,121, which s very subpar, but even worse as he threw for only 15 TDs against 16 ints.. His last year as an NFL player was 2000 where he started and lost all 5 games he played in. Meanwhile, Jon Gruden came to coach the Oakland Raiders in 1998. Gruden took a 12 year veteran QB who was a failed starter and a 12 year journeyman backup playing for multiple teams. That all changed when Gruden got Rich Gannon. The most yards Rich ever threw before coming to Oakland was 2,305. His completion percent was under 60% and he threw almost as many Ints and TDs. His first year with Gruden he made the Pro Bowl, threw for just under 4,000 yards and he got better every year from there. The next year he made both the Pro Bowl and All Pro, the Pro Bowl the year after that and finally we get to 2002 where Gannon made the Pro Bowl, All Pro and MVP. He was clearly the best QB in football. Why do I bring this up? 2002 was the year Gannon threw for 4,689 yards (yes, starting to tickle the belly of a 5,000 yard season). His comp % was a scintillating 67.6%, 26 TDs, only 10 ints. It was also the year Gruden coached the Bucs to a Superbowl victory AND the year Jim Harbaugh joined the Raiders as the QB coach. One year later Rich Gannon tumbled into the toilet as his stats dropped in 55.6% complete, a 2-5 record, and played only 7 lackluster games which is nearly half the season but only passed for an anemic 1,274 yards. Jim did a real good job coaching the best QB in football back into a backup. In short, Jim's coaching ruined Gannon. Harbaugh left NFL coaching to head to the colleges after that, only there for 2 years. Harbaugh coaches San Diego for 3 years and Standford for 4 years after San Diego. Meanwhile, Hall of Fame Middle Linebacker Mike Singletary joined the 49ers in 2005 as the linebackers coach and assistant head coach under Mike Nolan as head coach. Both Nolan and Singletary are defensive minded coaches. Nolan took over the worst defense in football (literally 32nd in 2005) and it improved every year; 26th in '06, 25th in '07, 13th in '08, the year Nolan was fired and Singletary was named interim coach mid season. Under Singletary the defense finished 15th in yards allowed but 4th in points allowed; 13th in 2010 and poised to explode into greatness. Singletary was fired. 2011 Harbaugh becomes head coach and under aggressive DC Vic Fangio the defense finished 4th in yards allowed and 2nd in points allowed. It was the defense that was the source of success of the 49ers. In 2010 the offense was 24th. Under Harbaugh in 2011 it feel to 26th. In 2012 the defense was 3rd, 5th in 2013 (offense 24th); 5th in 2014 (offense 20th). It was ALWAYS the defense that carried the 49er team. Moreover, Harbaugh's obsession with Kaepernick stems from the fact that Harbaugh liked to run as a QB. Kaepernick's lousy passing didn't bother Harbaugh because he was a lousy passer. Bottom line, in addition to all the character flaws WiFi points out, Harbaugh is lacking in his ability to assess players. Certainly his judgement regarding Kaepernick exposes this in him. After NFL teams adjusted to Kaepernick's running and he was forced to rely on passing the 49ers fell to an 8-8 season in Harbaugh's 4th year. Not being able to accept challenges like an 8-8 record and how to improve, Harbaugh quit the NFL and ran back to college, also proving he is a quitter. The Chargers can have him.

You've sanitized the history between Schwartz and Jim making it seem like Schwartz was a victim in this story. In that same game Schwartz could be seen mouthing off to Harbaugh from the sidelines "Know the Rules" after Jim challenged a play that, that year was made unreviewable.

He is a great coach and after he wins a superbowl with San Diego he’ll go down a legend

So basically what I'm hearing is someone who thinks this guy is unhinged because he's kind of insufferable and wants to win, but Gruden is a sweet summer child who is being maligned because he used "politically incorrect" language (i.e., racial, ethnic, and gendered slurs)? I hate to say typical Raiders fan, but your team has moved three times in the last three decades and it stretches how the team can still have fans.

man the niners have been in as many SBs the last decade and never won...harbaugh, and now shanahan...they always have literally great rosters but always blow it

I watched that press conference, and i thought it was awkward af honestly. He even mentioned someone on Chargers Org reminded THEM OF AL DAVIS, why would he even mentioned AL in the Chargers building, lol. Yeah I dunno bout that guy

😮💨If it wasn't for the CFP committee being complete morons and allowing their favorites the tied play in the playoffs - Harbaugh might not have even seen the national championship if Georgia and Florida were allowed to play. No NFL team would be interested and Harbaugh would be facing charges.

That’s crazy 2,200 views and only 212 likes. Hit that like button people if ya want to keep this kinda content coming. I’m sure this took a lot of work. Good shit willi. I hope this all fails for the chargers

There’s no way he punched Jim Kelly. Kelly was extremely tough. Teammates said Kelly played like a linebacker.

Coach Jim IS NOT FOR THIS SNOWFLAKE SOFT MAN ERA OF FOOTBALL. Hes a mans man, one of the last hardass coaches on a pro level once he retires his brother retires along with coach Thomilson and andy reid aint many old school manly coaches will be left.

The weird recruiting stories say more about the state of college football than they say about Harbaugh. He’s far from the only coach who had to do things no grownass man would ever want to do. That’s why so many of them want out.

He tried to recruit Pete’s son? This dude is cold.

Andy Reid is going to Devastate this man’s winning reputation I can’t believe he’s stupid enough to think he has a shot to compete for the AFC West AKA “Reid Mahomes!”

Hahah what kind of video did you expect from a raiders fan? They're mad that they are stuck with AP. Say whatever you want about JH but facts are facts. He wins! Keep crying!

He has a winning record, but never a Super Bowl. 🤷♂Then if he is so good, why would places always separate from him?
