That is it. Stop looking at good techs like magicians. Look at good techs as people who have developed patience, an unwavering commitment to quality, and who have taken some time to really understand what it is they are doing to this metal. I can show anybody the steps, I can’t teach the intangibles. Your commitment to knowledge is your responsibility.

As far as the marks on the paint (or clear) if my tool is all metal can i protect the stock clear/paint with a coating of some sort like a wax or clear to act as a sacrificial coating? Maybe even thin plastic of some sort.
@RealWorldPDRTraining

charles hart great question. Problem with that I could see is it sacrificing itself and blocking your view. Polish your metal tips, to 2500-3000 if you’ve got time! We used to do that weekly on the hammers we made. More than anything you’re dealing with the fact the panel will have 0 “give” there.

I live in Los Angeles and decided to have a career change at 42. Been watching tons of videos, known to be very detail oriented handy and patient. After the 2 week 8hr daily training what would you recommend my next step should be? Thanks.
@RealWorldPDRTraining
@RealWorldPDRTraining 5 жыл бұрын
Who have you trained with? Because that’ll be a huge decision maker there. The problem with most in person beginning training is it’s bullshit. They range from 5-9k for one week, and double that for two weeks. I preach so hard against spending that kind of loot on the basics because it’s fully not necessary. There will come a point when in person training is necessary, but not to grasp the basics. I’m putting out PDR 101 soon that’ll be 45 minutes jam packed of PDR goodness. By the time you make a large investment in in person training, you should be looking to hone your skills enough to start a business. Not paying 15k to do something you could’ve learned online. I’d recommend checking out PDR 101 and 102, they’ll be out in the next week and a half. Then if you want in person training, call me. Invest in training to make money, not to decide if this industry is right for you or not. My two pennies.

If beginner in person 2 week training is bs, what would you recommend in that case to get started ?
@RealWorldPDRTraining
@RealWorldPDRTraining 5 жыл бұрын
I don’t want to sound like I’m shamelessly self promoting here, but get the video series as I release them. If not mine, there are others out there. I’ve trained guys in person that have gone to most of the “big” trainers out there. There are huge gaping holes in skill sets that are left. 2 weeks is enough time to start fixing small dents. Like Nickel sized. Very rarely will you get paid for that kind of thing. PDR 101 that should be finished up in editing today, will get you there. And it isn’t going to cost anywhere close to 10k+. As I mentioned before, in person training will eventually become a necessity for anyone taking this career path seriously. But the beginning skills can be learned in your garage with just our very first paid content video. Email me at denttoolsfreak@gmail.com I’d be happy to chat with you about it.

May i ask, why not knock down the crease at the time you were prying upward on the dent with the hook? Wouldnt it relieve pressure for the dent and help the crease which is the door jam under it?
@RealWorldPDRTraining
@RealWorldPDRTraining 5 жыл бұрын
Interesting thought and works quite well while glue pulling, pushing is a 2 handed operation, as is using a knockdown tool. You could use a very small amount of pressure with a glue pulling bridge, and get the same effect. Or grow more arms lol. While it’d be possible with a hammer and just some steady pressure, I’d personally rather have a pit more accuracy pushing and knocking down than that. You have the same name as a Chevy store owner in Illinois by the way. Did his vehicles when they were hailed on. Fun fact.
@allhartfidelity
@allhartfidelity 5 жыл бұрын
@@RealWorldPDRTraining more arms (with human hands attached) would be great wouldnt it? Yea, couldn't see you with the hook up there but figured lack of appendage might be the case. Been watching your technics as well as another guy and its some real talented stuff you guys do. Been eyeballing the blending hammer being offered . Can you recomend a good starter set for a guy? Seems a good part of the magic is time spent getting behind stuff. Appriciate your talent!

charles hart well..... thinking about it. There’s a lot of hands that would do the trick. I think most hominids would have appropriate appendeges. But that’s obvious...I believe the chameleon type mitt hand would be sufficient, in fact I’ll take those in my extra arms. Loss of dexterity to be certain, but ready for baseball whenever...... breaking fingers would be difficult....... I’m taking chameleon hands on my extra arms......

How much would you typically charge a customer for a job like this one?
@RealWorldPDRTraining
@RealWorldPDRTraining 5 жыл бұрын
This is a smallish dent, with some obstruction for access. I base my pricing off of the matrices in MTRX our industry standard pricing guide. If I choose to give my customer a discount from there it’s my prerogative, and generally depends on the customers attitude to me. Between 100-150 for a smallish crease like this is reasonable for retail.
@RealWorldPDRTraining
@RealWorldPDRTraining 5 жыл бұрын
I’m a full retail shop, obviously with some notoriety for doing quality work. In different markets I might be a bit higher or a bit lower. And my pricing shouldn’t be indicative of anyone else’s. As long as they are using something similar to an MTRX matrix, they are in the right ballpark.
@jasonashleyh

So, whatever the answer. If it’s a better technique, learn to use them right. Then you will have mastered a better technique. Why train someone something inferior, just so they have to eventually learn the right way? Huge problem with training these days. “Let’s train glue pulling first to make this new guy feel like he knows what he’s doing.” Thenbthat new guy gets to the real world and realizes he’s clueless. He hasn’t built the correct building blocks and he will never progress beyond being an average or below tech. I think my body of work speaks for Itself, the techs I’ve trained speak for themselves, and that’s because we don’t take shortcuts.

Awesome question! What seems like a reasonable number to spend on a complete beginner set? Because for 400 bucks I can have you pushing dents, but very very limited. That’d be a light, one or two rods, hanger paddle and knockdown. The light being the lions share of the cost. You could never hope to make any kind of money with that though. I’d like to put together a video outlining EXACTLY what an absolute beginner should buy to start his/her company. A basic set that isn’t too basic to be extremely restrictive. I’ve thought about 2-3000 but I’d like to nail down a number. Any input would be great if you think 2k is unreasonable let me know! I started my business on a 1500 loan from my mother, some handmade tools, and a wreckless attitude 😂😂. Now 50k+ in tools later I feel like I’ve lost touch with what I should honestly expect new guys to invest in themselves. Any input is much appreciated!
