iPhone 8 Plus Back Glass Replacement (How to fix the back for $17)

Today I am going to show you remove and replace the back glass on the iPhone 8 Plus. For those wondering, I used a 1500W Dual Temperature Heat Gun (which costs about $11-$20) and had it on the highest level. If you are not all right with opening up your phone, do not proceed!

As someone who works in the tech repair field, I'd like to point out that it's important to unplug the battery cable first, and when you put it back together at the end, make sure that battery cable is the last one plugged in. This will help prevent any shorting damage. This applies to ALL phones. (For those who don't know, the battery cable is one with a straight cable, not a flimsy one like the other ones - or just follow whichever cable comes from the battery)

When I went looking for the glass, all I found were people selling the complete metal back case assembly with the glass already in place. Is that the thing now, just to swap out the entire mounting plate? Seems easier.

it definitely is easier to buy the whole assembly part, this is to difficult to do, mainly because there are too many moving part, and certainly you will forget where parts go. This is a $75 fix here in Houston.

can you replace iphone 8 plus back glass with back cover of iPhone 7 Plus.?

no because the back of an iPhone 7 plus is attached to the frame. If you were experienced, you could possibly just take the internals if the iPhone 8 and shove them into an iPhone 7 but Apple has a tendency to brick devices when the phones detect unauthorized repair. Granted, I don't think this will be an issue with an iPhone 8, just make sure you use the original iPhone 8 screen and home button.

why do you remove all the components? is that to protect them from the heat gun? and is that necessary?

I have to assume that people doing this repair are not doing this everyday like I am, so I make sure to minimize the chance of any major damage happening from someone watching the video. Of course videos are for learning and realistically you need to watch the entire video and understand it before attempting the repair.
