Fun fact: during Todo's Black Flash, they used elements of a double page spread Gege drew during the Shibuya Incidient manga. The different quick cuts, a glowing outline of Yuji with his thumb up, winking, and a random picture of Todo's head floating around were all apart of that ONE color spread. Probably one of the more under-appreciated references that anime-only's wouldn't catch.

This episode had the most tears and also the most hype. Both of the black flash switches were INSANE, the animation of yuji's breakdown and the voice acting from nanami, itadori, todo and miwa was off the charts. Mahito is definitely the best villian in JJK so far and Yuji x Todo 2.0 is the jumpkaisen boogie woogie boogaloo we've been waiting a whole season for. 10/10 will rewatch now

A curse uses cursed energy. Black flash is just the impact of cursed energy hitting within a trillionth of a second of a physical impact. Anyone or thing who controls cursed energy can technically do a black flash. Also Todo probably didn't switch with the rock (which he was able to do because it was coated in Yuji's cursed energy) until just before the impact. All the animation we saw of him carousing through the universe was just Todo flavouring.

I just wanna say first and foremost, Mahito's VA DELIVERED. Now, onto the analysis. I think it's very fitting that Mahito was the first Black Flash of S2 and first BF from a cursed spirit. He is both learning and fully embracing his nature. He is comfortable with who he is. He is a very young curse, so his potential and room to grow are nearly limitless. Considering that even after all this, Mahito still feels like his soul has another form of evolution that he's so close to reaching. He causes pain, fear, hatred, despair. He is a true curse. I've always loved that speech he gave Yuji during the beatdown. He's doing what he was born to do. Yuji being in the fight is why he can't just transfigure Yuji and Todo and instantly win the fight(due to Sukuna being inside Yuji and touching their souls together is too big of a risk). But it's also providing Mahito the room to grow and evolve. Yuji, Todo and Mahito have brought out 120% of their potential. And as Mahito said to Yuji in the end, this will be their final chance to curse each other.

To give y'all more context behind Todo's line when he entered the battle, it was an excerpt from a classical Japanese literature book known as the Heike Monogatari (which got adapted into an anime at one point). The book is about the rise and fall of a great and powerful fictional Japanese clan that was based off true historical events. And that line in the book summarises the decline of that clan by using one of the core Buddhist principles. Which is that nothing lasts for ever🤷🏾‍♂🤷🏾‍♂ and even "the prosperous must decline" ....HOWEVER, Todo adds his own twist at the end when he says "but we are the exception". Here, Todo displays the same level of self confidence as the "awakened Gojo" did by proclaiming that he and Yuji are among the few great sorcerers that have the sheer will and almost divine right to defy what's considered a natural law of this world. That being the impermanence of all things. Because again, nothing lasts for ever in this world. Even great sorcerers decline. But this is Todo's way of saying that he is among the few who have ascended above all that😌and both the lines that Todo and Gojo spoke come from classical literature. And for them to do something as blasphemous as appropriating those lines and add their own twists to them, is also their way of stating that only they have that divine authority to do that

One thing that they didn't really explain directly in the anime (they didn't use a narrator in season 1 for cutout explanations) is that Mahito is COMPLETELY immune to damage from attacks that don't hit his soul. Todo can hurt Mahito, but he can't actually inflict physical damage because he doesn't have the ability to interact directly with souls. Basically, 99% of sorcerers are physically incapable of injuring Mahito without a weapon that can cut souls (like Toji's sword). This is why Mahito got blown away in that final scene, but wasn't damaged. Also, it is why Mahito considers Yuji and Nobara to be his enemies, as their attacks are ones that can damage him.

A lot of people also forget that mahito is vulnerable to domains too. His ability to reshape his soul to essentially negate all attacks other than soul affecting stuff is his CT, which is disabled in a domain. This is also the reason why Mechamaru actually stood a chance, since he had simple domain. Mahito is actually pretty similar to Gojo in terms of how to get around his invulnerability.

I don't think everything needs to be explained with a narrator for it to drive the point home. I personally don't like to be spoon-fed, its more interesting when the writers give you explicit hint of something rather than having a narrator over-explain details that seemed obvious. In this episode Mahito explained it himself, so thats good enough to clarify the uncertainty

As a manga reader, I knew Todo was appearing in this episode, but the way he pulled up! The animation, the lighting, the music!!! HE GAVE ME CHILLS! He’s one of my favorite characters, I just love when he’s on screen so much. I think Todo apart from being like comic relief, I think the point of him is hope, unstoppable will and unrelenting hope. This is similar to how on season 1 when the kids are asked whether they’d like to continue with the competition or not after the curses attacked, he was the first one to say they _had_ to continue, because they had no right to mourn the deaths of people they didn’t know, and the only way to honor them was to continue moving forwards. I love Todo. God, my poor boy Yuji, my eyes actually watered, he’s 15!! A 15 year old child has gone through so much trauma in the expanse of an hour, the burden he carries is unreal. Lately it’s been a mutual “Gege when I catch you, Gege” sentiment from anime watchers and manga readers. I wanted to catch your reaction yesterday but I ended up in the ER and when I came back I slept for 14 hours straight, from 6pm till 8am sjsjsjs.

Wow wow wow! This episode was beyond amazing. It got me so damn hype! Yelling at my TV n shit! Exactly what I wanted to happen happened, the 🐐 AOI TODO has returned!!! What a hell of an entrance and he is just what Itadori needed in this dire time. His besto friendo, his brother has come in and stoked that fire in Yuji to get up and push through, for those like Nanami. The callbacks in this episode and Yuji saying he’ll suffer in Nanami’s place were so damn good. Of course they gotta add to that and hit us with Mechamaru confessing his love to Miwa along with finally leaving for good. I hope the Kyoto students get there already and help. Nobara better be alive too dammit. Todo’s Black Flash animation was INSANE. Shit is really getting crazy now, AGAIN. And you definitely know that’s true when the ending song and credits play as the episode is still going 🤘🏽 I must also add that Nobunaga Shimazaki, Mahito’s VA, was tremendous as usual. This is definitely one my favorite episodes and further cements why love Todo. I cannot wait to see more of this epic tag team match and my favorite duo better make it out of this alright!
