She stood beside him as he prepared to take yet another soul, an elderly woman who had been waiting to join her long departed husband for some time. The peaceful smile that washed over the woman's face as she breathed her last mortal breath was cathartic, as though Death had personally brought her solace. As he went to rise from his seat, she heard a new mother's harrowing screams of anguish - her newborn had not survived their journey into the world. She hastened to the mother's side and learned that the cord had wrapped around her baby's neck and cut off the circulation and airway. The doctors were trying their best to save the little one, but it was apparent that their efforts were not enough. She urged them to stop and pass the baby to her, cradling their tiny still form, as Death merely stood at the door, not moving to intercede. "Come, little one," she whispered. "It is not yet your time. Your mother would very much love to meet you." The baby boy in her arms coughed, seeming to realize that he was no longer warm and comfortable, and let out his first feeble cry. She passed the newborn back to the doctors who rushed to take care of him and the visibly relieved mother then went to join Death once again. "That child will live for many years to come," Death intoned. "I hope when it is his time to pass on, he will have done something worthy during his life." She smiled softly. "Whether he has or not, we will be there to welcome him home."

Thy prose was truly exquisite; but it was the final line that cured a part of my soul which I had not realized it was shattered... ignited a spark of a long forgotten humanity. Thank you, I must say, please accept the deepest gratitude; but I wish a better blessing was created to gift it to you.

Staring at life with an evil grin. Dead eyes, walking with a bop. Like a monster, best way to describe my posture. Been through hell and back it’s almost like a playground, staring uninspired at this fire that can no longer scorch me. That’s how the game called Life divorced me.

I can picture myself going over my quest notes, while seated in a dimly-lit library, before hitting the road en route to slaying the Demon King.

He stood at the warning wire, the guards above in their watchtowers barking down to him like mad dogs. Back away, you swine! Back! Back! He did not heed their call; behind his glassy eyes he could see his youth play out before him, memories passing by and by, the pages of a story left unfinished. He saw the smiling face of his mother, so bright and warm; he could feel the embrace of his father's arms, so firm and yet so very gentle. Those were the days he felt safe, the days he laughed, the days he loved... It felt so far away now, here in this forsaken place... This, world away from worlds... What had it been? A month? A year?... Did time even matter anymore?... He couldn't remember the last time he thought of anything aside from his meager rations. Oh to eat... Such a distant dream... The snap of a baton brought him back to the present; behind him stood a KAPO, enraged as he yelled out to him in Yiddish, YOU! Step back from the wire now! Come you dog! The boy said nothing, his uncaring eyes borrowing into the KAPOS gaze... He turned back to the wire; ahead of him he could see the barbs of the electric fence... Just ten feet, ten feet, and his pain will soon end... No more work, no more beatings! The next few seconds were a blur as he leaped forward... I'm sorry, mother, I wasn't strong enough... Forgive me.
