Just started using Reaper after unintentionally graduating from Avid ProTools. I can honestly say that while I've been a devout loyal user to ProTools, AVID is what AVID is and I've had enough of their _________! Reaper has been on my radar for a few months but having decided to pull the trigger and learn, I am shocked and disappointed in myself for not giving this DAW a chance sooner. I produce and engineer Metal music, sound for film, and do Scoring for games... I can do all three on Reaper even better than with ProTools. This Video has helped me teach myself the important editing tools and has helped to make the learning curve that much more effective. Thank you So much and Cheers.

Great tutorial - though I'm not sure that distorted metal guitar was the best choice of example audio... When you did the overlapping and the cutover, I basically heard no difference... Still just a highly distorted guitar sound.. :)

Yep, wonderful tutorial! Thank you! But that audio example SUCKS. Not a matter of taste, rather the guitar is soooo distorted as you may as well be using radio static. Clean guitar or pretty vocal would have been much better, and more informative.

I am not the best guitarist, so the best way for me, is to play small sections and then stitch them together. I use cross fades to improve the sound. After that this process, if I want to glue the sections together, will the cross fades stay in place? If not, what is the best way to achieve combined sections of guitar with the cross fades in place. Many thanks.

I'm a little confused about using the alt key to make the timing change. It is specifically mentioned to be useful for adjusting the timing for voice over recordings, but when I use this I find that it changes the pitch of the recording. Great tips as always, I do have one question, I often cut out sections of a track that I don't want, and then manually join the track back together by moving the left side to fill the gap. i have a problem: I just downloaded reaper v6.13 and wanted to install a new js plugin. It doesn't detect it when i go to the ,,scan for new plugins option,, so I figured I might have it installed in the wrong path. So I wanted to click on the audio device thing in the top right corner. But everytime I do this, it changes to ,,audio device closed,, and no.matter what I do, it keeps happening. Also, when I try to access the settings in a different way, by pressing options>preferences, nothing opens or happens and the device either stays closed or closes if it hadnt been closed allready...I've tried everything. reinstalling reaper, rebooting my windows pc (windows 10), checking my usb connections from my interface and so on... the weird thing is, is that my interface is recognized via the pc, meaning i can run youtube audio from the pc to the interface tommy monitors but at the same time, reaper says the device is closed.... any suggestions? I also have reinstalled the drivers for my 18i20 Focusrite, but it still doesn work

I am trying out Reaper, I come from the SONAR platform, which is dead by now. What I found in Reaper, is overdubbing aduio, into the saem track ! Even protools and cubase can NOT do this ! I could not believe that !:) but, now, when I want ot mark a part of a clip, I am used to do that, simply and easy with mouseclick and directly into the clip, and then jsut for inst. delete . Do I have to , In Reason, to go / scroll up to the timeselection, on top of the timeline, to mark a clip ?

Dave Varley if you open up your computer specs (Windows key + Pause/Break keys) it will tell you if your computer is set up with either 32 or 64 bit OS. You can then pick the right version of Reaper to download and install. 👍

Great tips as usual. I do have a question about a past tutorial, though. If you can cast your mind back to your "Build Your Own Home Studio For Free" part 1 video, you gave a link for the Mercurial Cab download. I have never had success with that plugin. I was using a pretty weak laptop before so I put it down to that, but I have recently bought a reasonably good computer just to do my audio and to do Reaper justice. The problem is the same, though. The other download links that you gave for MT Drummer, for instance, etc work fine as do the amps. Mercurial cab doesn't seem to work. When I add it to the FX chain I lose all sound from the track. If I uncheck the Mercurial box in the FX chain the play returns. It is probably down to something simple that I haven't done. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

Great video, I'm new to DAWs and wish to learn one with the intent to record an album with my friend next year, ive been given cubase as a free software with my audio interface but havent got round to using it yet, in honesty i was a bit biwildered with it and the lack of user friendly-ness. I've been researching into reaper and have been really taken with it. Before i take the plunge can anyone out there recommend this DAW and does it compete with the other 'big name' DAWs? i'm so new to it all i have no opinion so would appreciate some advice, i wish to learn a daw that is as user friendly/flexible and clean looking as possible but still powerful enough to handle the recording, mixing, external effects and programme integration and mastering without breaking my limited bank. As a side note i wish to learn one with a great community support/tutorial support to make the learning process as quick and easy as possible. Would really appreciate some thoughts, comments and feedback :)
