This was so helpful! As a multiple time reapplicant I can definitely relate. I had interviews, but did not get in. I practiced interviewing so much! I can definitely see how that confidence aspect is key and something I need to work on myself.

I am sorry to hear you didn't match. Hang in there friend. If you've got another cycle of applying in you, I am glad you were able to recognize that you have room for improvement in interview confidence and have plenty of time to work on it. If you are thinking about switching goals, check out my videos the next two Wannabe Wednesdays. The two women I am interviewing would have made amazing genetic counselors, but both have found an alternative career path that is amazing for them. It's okay to make a switch too.

Hi Katie, Can I get another link for the discord? The previous one seems expired. Love your videos, they are a tremendous help for an undergrad interested in pursuing GC. Thanks!

Hey Katie, So I have a year and a semester of undergrad and I’m already preparing to try and look into schools I would like to apply. I dealt plan to apply next year during my senior year. When you talk about cycles and match day what does that all mean and where do I find that information? I’ve tried looking for it but I’m not finding it Thank you so much for these videos! They’re so helpful!

Hey there! Thanks for watching. Some important places to start your search will be here (a list of all the programs: www.gceducation.org/program-directory/ and the match site here- natmatch.com/gcadmissions/ Generally applications for all of the US genetic counseling programs are due sometime between December- January, invites to interview go out in Februaryish, interviews occur in March- April, and match day (the day you find out which GC program you got into, if any) is at the end of April. The whole process of applying, interviewing, matching/not-matching is referred to as a cycle.

Not sure if you’re still active but I am interested in GC however my GPA is only 3.3 (I am a junior in university). I was wondering if I do not get into a grad program what my other options could be as far as utilizing my degree in Genetics. I am not very adept with computer science and am interested in Human Genetics.

I had a 3.27 in undergrad and not great grades for my prereqs for school. Don't let this stop you if you're interested in genetic counseling. Check out my video here where I discuss grades, share my transcripts, and tips to make up for mediocre grades. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYW6lXqoqq2DqZY. You might want to check out an MPH is public health genetics.

If you fail to get in 3 times, isn’t that a sign that you shouldn’t be in the career?
@katieleecgctalksgeneticcou62483 жыл бұрын
Some applicants would definitely take 3 rejections as a sign that they should choose a different path and others continue to stick with it due to love for the career. If it were me I would definitely evaluate other careers/educational paths at that time.
