That is a vent, not a filter. It's job is to let air out, not in. The cabin air filter is in the glove box.

Yeah, the factory OEM vent is a vent. The mod is technically a "filter" - that's my bad. Should have clearly stated that at some point in the video. Thanks for pointing that out though!!

This is definitely a great little modification. Back when I had my 4Runner, after any kind of trail run, there would always be some backflow of dust and debris into the inside. It was a 4th Gen, so I could always see the dust on the driver's side, inside and outside the body panels, especially by the little cubby hole for the factory jack. Annoying to clean for sure. If this can stop all of that, and still keep the cabin properly pressurized, awesome. Good video!

Holy crap! I grew up in a GM family and currently lease 3 new 2022 GM cars for my wife & two sons. You tear the glove box door off and a couple screws to change these. My oil change does it for me! I sold my Escalade and I'm buying one of these 4runners in a few days for myself. I have never owned a Toyota! I just watched you take the car apart to change the air filter😳😜. Wow! Did these cars start out on the assembly line as the filter and build the whole truck around the filter? 🤔🤣😂. I'm impressed that you did it!👏👍. You should win something for the accomplishment of getting it done!🥇🏆💰! Like I said I know nothing about Toyota as we grew up GM. Lately GM seems to have lost there way with dependability I believe! This is why I lease all my familys cars except mine! I only buy the vehicles for myself that I drive which are only a few years old and used. Everyone else gets a leased one! From what I've been watching on these 4runners they look cool and seem to run forever! I'm getting the TRD off road premium 4x4. It's certified too! Not sure what that all entails? I hope I don't need to remove the engine to change my oil on it after watching you dam near remove the body for a cabin filter 😅. I'm hoping when mine was certified they changed that filter! If I tell my oil change guys to do it they may take a swing at me, 👊 💥 or ban me from any further services! I really love the idea of a charcoal filter though! The stainless sounds even better as you never have to remove the body off the frame again!😆😂. If you see mine with a hole cut threw the rear quarter I took the short cut to it! I live in Michigan! How much do you charge to change it? $400, $500? I loved your video all jokes aside! How the hell you were so cheerful doing this too! 😃. KZbin wouldn't allow my video doing it. That is not the cabin filter. The cabin filter is in the glove box and very easy.

Great vid man! I just got these and installed them since I’m doing my steel bumper right now. Question though, as I read the instructions, my understanding was that the air vents face the back, but those two drain holes are supposed to be oriented down, not up. Thoughts?

Are you sure thats a filter? That looks like a return air duct. Service not really needed. It’s the in cabin filter that needs to be service.

All SUV's have them, they are vents, not filters.

Actually all passenger vehicles have them. Yes, they are vents (for outward flowing air). Everyone that I have seen on Toyotas, Hondas and Nissans have rubber flaps on the outside. The way they are designed are to allow internal air to vent out while at speed because the outside air flowing over the vehicle causes a lower pressure zone vs cabin air (Bernoulli's principal). They lay flat, pressing against the vent when static. This gadget is an expensive solution looking for a problem.

What he didn’t mention is this is mainly for people off roading. I live next to the Black Rock Desert. We have silt & anytime I drive no matter what my inside gets dusty. This prevents any dust creeping into your 4Runner. If you drive on dirt roads once or twice a year you don’t need this. If you are off roading every chance you get you need this!

It is there to balance pressure in between the car and out side, so when you shot the door, or turn on ac hot air whatever, air goes out.

Push pins have a tool and the center pins supposed to be removed allowing you to remove the pin without scraping your paint with primitive Pete screw drivers

Vent/filter who cares what is called. If it keeps the dust out that is great . I just received and installed these. I will say you do not have to remove the entire bumper. Just remove the fixtures on each side and pull. This will give you enough room to change them out.

It is good idea but exchange the filter is bad idea typically if you have a aftermarket offroad bumper.

Good question, he does not specify one side or both. I had my bumper off to repaint it & remember a vent on the passenger side (2012 U.S. version ) so I would guess both sides since he did the driver side .

It's misleading, not a cabin air filter, its a vent to let air pressure OUT of the cabin, not to filter air.

Sweet Rig. And great advice, I had no idea that opening existed. Now that I do...and all the work required.....My 1st instinct is to remove all filters and seal that opening. Permanently !!!! I will just slam my door shut. Batta Boom Batta Bing.
