it's nothing new. STS or Squier Turbo Systems have been doing it for years on corvettes, camaros and mustangs.. and some jeeps. They even have a kit for the BRZ. They use oil less comp turbos and apparently there isn't any turbo lag

I love rear turbo builds even if they get flac for not producing full speed spools. They are an awesome option to retain the A/C system. So I did this once, on a 3000gt. Remote mounted the turbo to where the factory rear diff would have been. Used all the mounts and stuff from where the AWD system would have been. ACTUALLY spooled really well, made 18lbs at about 4200 rpm. It was a monster to maintain though. And with a fmic, you could measure lag with a calendar. Got rid of it, spooly spooly, lol.

Turbo timers actually might make sense for an ebay turbo if its just journal bearing. On mike's budget ebay turbo civic build challenge channel they mentioned that its not uncommon for cheap journal ebay turbos to sieze up after they've been sitting for a while, and they have to be broken free (they broke theirs free with 2 step) but a turbo timer should go a long way to mitigate that since the oil won't cook the surfaces together. That's really funny that it was included in your kit and that they are becoming relevant again 15 years later.

1342, it's a four banger. The m42 is a sweet motor, after cracking 6 oil pans I replaced it with a piece of sheet metal, and it still leaked so bad I would just start it up and dump one quart in and drive 18 miles to work. Did it for over a month. Was worried years later the motor was done tore it down and everything spaced out. The Germans know what their doing.
