Just did this job today on my 2000 Explorer. I backed the truck up on ramps, dropped the spare tire and there's plenty of space to work. Used a drop light to see better. Took less than an hour. Bought the part on amazon for less than $10. Thanks for your video to get me started on this project.

You forgot the metal piece that is above the sensor.....almost like a spacer between the sensor and the bolt. If yours doesn't have it, someone has replaced it and forgot to put it back on.

I just changed the sensor on my 2000. PIA getting it out. I used bicycle tire irons to spread the locking tabs to get the old switch apart. Was able to hold those and spread the tabs with one hand and pull the switch out with the other. Worked like a charm. Thanks for doing this video. Great help

Only one rear wheel speed sensor in diff or one on each wheel? I have C1235 Right WSS Input Signal missing and a C1236 which is the left rear WSS.

Would that also make the rear feel like it's trying to lock up when the rear differential and rear end gets a little heat to it? I have a 98 explorer limited 4x4 rotors are all new on the rear differential has grease in it no cracks no leaks I do have ABS light on

Maybe you can help me with my problem: 97 Explorer auto trans. The speedo will go up to 50 mph as soon as I start moving. Then stay there til I stop, then it slowly comes back to zero. I just replaced the front speed sensor. Not the problem. Speedo works fine when the truck is cold in the mornings. I live in MT. This won't help, I don't think. Or will it?

+Ernest Pruitt My speedometer works. However, I do currently have a parasitic battery drain in circuit # 25 (I think it is 25) inside the fuse panel next to the drivers door. So when I am not driving and my vehicle is just sitting I remove that fuse so my battery does not get drained, and in the video I was just doing a test drive around the block so I left that fuse out. That fuse controls a few things like the gem module, instrument cluster, and a seat module and a few other things. So that is why my speedometer was not working, because I had the fuse out. Yup. Same vehicle and the ABS light came on for the first time. Then my speedo needle was waving between 0 and 60 .. Sounds the same.

I just replaced the rear speed sensor on my 2000 Explorer. Problem solved. Thanks, your video very helpful. Your video shows a MaxiDiag Elite. Can you state the model, is it a 802? I purchased a Centech 60794 that claims to read ABS codes but it found no codes. Changed the rear sensor anyway and problem fixed. Meter shows old sensor was open circuit. New sensor read about 1800 ohms. I need to get rid of the Centech code reader and get what you used. Thanks again.

Yeah I believe in this video I was using my Autel MD802 All systems scan tool. I bought mine off of Ebay for Around 250.00 over a year ago, for the MD802 you can buy the 4 system model for cheaper, but I suggest if you want one to get the more expensive all systems model. On my Explorer I cant remember if I had an ABS code set or not, but I know looking at the live data the wheel speed sensor was not responding properly, and that is why I changed out the sensor. Does the Centech 60794 allow you to view wheel speed sensor live data? I was looking at the Centech 60794 on the harbor freight website, and it seemed like it had some good features to it for being a low price scan tool. If I work on a ford, licoln, or mazda, one of my favorite low price scan tools to use is a free scantool software from forscan.org I have a video about it you can check it out if you want. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i32XpnSajaaLgac This software works pretty great considering it is free. (the pc version is free the android app version I think is 5$) You can download the software, and then you just need to get a USB to obd2 cable to work from computer to car, and you can find those on Ebay for 25.00. To answer your question about the Centech 60794 I took another look. The menus take one to a choice of regular menu (can't remember exact text) or ABS menu. Under regular menu is live data that doesn't include ABS data, under the ABS menu there is no live data. So no, the Centech 60794 will not show live wheel speed data. Your video with the MaxiDiag did show the ABS code C1230, rear speed sensor, as well as live wheel speed. That's why I'm impressed with the MaxiDiag. Will the Forscan software show the ABS data?

Sorry it has been to long since I made that video I did not remember if I showed a code or not. Yeah I see what you mean about the Centech that sucks if it does not allow live data for the ABS module. It is very handy to be able to access live data on several modules. Yes the forscan software has abs module access, and it has several pids available it had the wheel speed sensors available. On that Forscan video I sent you if you stop it on 9:20 I am looking at the ABS module read pids. Some modules have read pids and they sometimes have control pids available. The control pids allow turning some things on which is very handy, which you cant do on the MD802. If you go to the video and look at 9:47 you will see when I switch the PCM to control and it brings up the control pids. I really like the forscan software, it is free and it works great. I learned about it a few years ago from my Ford Automotive Instructor, and I have been using it ever since and I tell people about it. Well thanks for the info about the Centech I will not be wasting any of my money on one of those in the near future. To me they really looked like an autel clone in a lot of ways, I thought they might have been similar but cheaper. Well thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. Have a good day.

haha, would that sensor cause the rear to lock up if its bad? my brakes lock up in rear and don't release until pressing brakes again only at a hard stop.
