Best video ever. It makes sense to replace the rubber inserts only. It saves money and waste of a perfectly good insert holder. I went to the Honda dealer for genuine Honda rubber inserts, two fronts for $24.00.

Watched about 20 videos on how to replace a rear windshield wiper blade and rubber on my 2014 Honda accent and all of them sucked except this one video so thank you very much sir whoever you are I really appreciate you you are so helpful you explained everything in detail I had no problem and it was so much more clear cuz the other videos are just ridiculously unhelpful. I love the way he talks, but more importantly I really appreciated his explanations of WHY to do things a certain way. Even if you're not looking to replace just the blades (e.g., you're just replacing whole wiper), the tip on how to get the back wiper off was worth it.

Thank you! Just changed the rear wiper on my Mitsubishi Outlander. I bought a rain-x wiper assembly, of which I just took out the wiper insert and replaced my stock one. Very easy with your video, lesson learned for next year though...just replace the insert, not the whole blade assembly.

WOW Great video and thorough explanation. Here is another tip. I just cut the rails that came with the new inserts by putting them side by side with the old rails and marking them and cutting them to the exact length. I never would have just replaced the inserts without your video. Thanks.

Yes. Good tip. I have had to do that from time to time. The metal inserts are made of stainless steel, so they are great to hang on to for making and repairing other things. I have a pile of them ;-)

They can really charge a lot for that extra plastic. And the old ones just go in the landfill. They'll last for several years just refilling the rubber.

If I might add, I spray silicone and it slides through like crap thru a goose, but, if you do it dry and you miss a grove I just use a flat screwdriver (very small) to just push the rubber under the plastic lip ... Aloha!
@fixpro2565 ай бұрын
God idea. Most of the silicones are ok. A few might have petroleum based solvents in them that may cause problems with rubber. A tad of dish soap in water may be safer.

The challenge I have is to ID the rubber to buy online. They have different width? Mine is off a 2005 mini cooper rear wiper. It measures 6.8mm. Also, can all rubbers be cut to length? It seems some has closed end.
@fixpro2565 жыл бұрын
There are at least 3 different wiper claw profiles. (6mm square, 7mm trapezoidal, 8mm square). There may be more. Tricoproducts.com makes the break-to-fit wiper refills that are/were in some auto parts stores. You may have to ask for them at the counter. Some do have retaining ends. Usually only at one end. Sometimes in the metal ribs/slats, sometimes built into the rubber. Put the retaining end closest to the pivot point of the arm (not the pivot of the blade). Cut the opposite end off. Some rear wiper blade (not insert) designs have a tab built into each end that keeps the insert from slipping out. If you have to break one of them to replace the insert, break the one closest to the pivot point. The tab on the far end will keep the insert from slipping out.

It looks a bit cumbersome to get the rubber inserts to slide through the claws. Would adding some lubrication make it easier? A bit of soapy water would make it slippery but would still rinse off easily when you're done. I just replaced the entire blade on my car, but will try just the refill next time.
@fixpro2567 жыл бұрын
It is a little difficult the first few times you do it. Soap makes it go in the claws easier but it also makes the rubber hard to hold onto ;-) It is a tradeoff between time, convenience, money, and feeling a little better about keeping crap out of the landfill. If you only do one car or truck a year, it may not be worth it to you. I end up doing 3 or 4 a year so it is worth the effort for me.

Hi fixpro256. Can I refill without those little plastic clips to 'hold it all together' as you say...or will it all just come apart??
@fixpro2564 жыл бұрын
The plastic clips just help hold everything together to make it easier for you. So, yes, you can refill without the plastic clips.
@felinefox40394 жыл бұрын
@@fixpro256 oh yeah! I did it today was just about to leave in the comments that it all went fine without the clips. Was a bit of manoeuvring to get the rubber through along with the metal rails but its all good now and working fine🖒

+Omar Turkostani Most manufacturers have changed to this style, but a few still use the old style that is more like the front wipers. There could also be a few oddballs out there ;-) What type of car do you have?
@ammooorit8 жыл бұрын
+fixpro256 My dad's car is a 2006 toyota previa, it has two rails as your video but without the plastic clips and only three claws not four.
@fixpro2568 жыл бұрын
+Omar Turkostani I did an image search for that. Looks like some use the new style and some use a strange style I have not seen. The arm style will depend on the manufacturer. I noticed some of the blades have 3 claws and some have the 4 claws. The number of claws will depend on who makes the blade.

Where can we order the steel rails online
@fixpro2565 жыл бұрын
I haven't seen them online. But I haven't looked. They come with every standard wiper you buy, but they are various widths depending on the wiper design. I like to keep them when I throw a wiper away because they are made of stainless steel. They are handy for making parts for other projects.
