My goal with this was to rearrange my rack of preamps. I have my preamps sitting right next to my drums so I can adjust levels in "real time." One issue I had was my Universal Audio 4-710d (4 channel UA pre) uses tubes (you can attenuate between solid state and tube, a nice touch) and gets warm so I wanted to put that on top. Issue with that is that I only use the first two channels and those are generally CH15 and CH 16 so I procrastinated as it would disrupt my workflow. I finally got around to doing it and took the opportunity to label some cables and install some casters on the rack itself. The end result is much better! This was a bit off the cuff so the camera angles are a bit odd and I am thinking out loud as I go but it shows a bit of the "behind the scenes" maintenance process we as studio owners go through. This is a very small scale compared to a larger commercial facility but it works for me and I get good sounds in my small room.
My preamps:
BAE 1073 MPF
API 3124
Warm WA 412
Sytek MPX-4A
UA 4-710d
Conversion is a Lynx Aurora 16
Monitoring is Dangerous Music Monitor ST
For monitors I use Mackie HR824 and Yamaha NS10s powered by a Hafler Pro2400 amp
I have a plethora of microphones to compliment my preamps so front to back my signal flow is solid. I also have loads of drums but my main studio kit is a Yamaha Recording Custom from the 90s.
I also have some 500 series eq and compression and a rack mount DBX compressor but I usually don't compress or eq going to disk.
I am a professional drummer and have been so my entire career. If you need drums on your song or album, don't hesitate to reach out. If you're putting together a band for a tour, let's talk!
