Although a Protestant, I was fortunate to discover Gilson before leaving school. He is both genuinely lucid, and also has a comprehensive grasp of the material. I hope the present generation rediscovers him.

@@CharlesHaywood some of his main words are quite esoteric and obtuse, if you want a way in Frank Gelli’s “The Sufi of Rome” serves as his table talks on various subjects. His aristocratic leanings there are quite clear, even if the book doesn’t fully devote itself to the thesis of proving he was a crypto-Sufi Muslim.
