The Quran presents a liberating way to love, which is loving for the sake of Allah. This concept transforms our relationships fundamentally. But what does it truly mean to love for the sake of Allah?
Consider the difference between a rich person and a beggar. A rich person, having abundant wealth, can interact generously because they have plenty to give. In contrast, a beggar, being poor, interacts from a place of neediness and dependence, always taking rather than giving.
Apply this analogy to emotional richness and neediness in relationships. Loving for the sake of Allah means that I am not seeking emotional fulfillment from others. I am not dependent on others to feel good about myself, to be happy, complete, or loved. Instead, I derive these feelings from my relationship with Allah.
When we are emotionally rich, filled with love and trust in Allah, we are in a position to give and to love generously.
