I haven't seen the movie, but I do remember enjoying the book. Frankly, the character who stood out to me the most was actually Mr. Mole. His arc seemed quite a bit more compelling and I liked both his growing friendship with Water Rat and the eventual shift between Rat getting him out of trouble to Mole getting Rat out of trouble. Frankly, Mole's change seemed like it would be more lasting than Toad's, so the relationship between Mole and Rat definitely was my favorite part. Also, if memory serves me, Toad actually took advantage of Rat to escape, by, of course, pretending he was ill, thus taking advantage of his friend's concern. All I can assume is that the animals had no other way of preventing Toad from using cars and risking people's lives, but I have no idea of the situation. At least, if I recall, Badger sort of talked Toad into paying ample compensation for all the things he stole.

Yes! You're totally spot on! I agree about the characters concerning the relationship with Mole & Rat! Maybe that's why I thought so highly of the friends? You're right! I forgot that Toad was made to pay! 😄

Great video, I hope you do more of these....I love to see comparisons of Disney version vs the actual book. Maybe Snow White next?

I'm glad you liked it! I do hope to do more! I don't have the actual Grimm fairytale book, nor the Hans Christian Anderson collection, but I am actually reading the 20 Thousand Leagues Under the Sea per request of my husband, which is a Disney live action film that came out sometime between the 50s to 70s... so I would like to do a comparison of that... It's not a film that ever interested me personally, but Disney liked it enough to want to make a live action film and my husband loved that book, so I'm curious 😆 but for my birthday I can get those other books you mentioned 😆

Wow this was so much fun to watch :) and I had a laugh at poor toad going to hell on the ride :p I vaguely remember seeing a few tv. or movie versions of 'Wind in the Willows' when I was younger and I also remember reading a bit of the book. I put it down because I didn't have as much patience to read as I would've liked, plus like you say, the beginning was probably a bit slow for me but maybe I should try again? The friends in this story do sound pretty amazing and I do like how toad does get a little better by the end. It makes me wonder where the writer got his inspiration 🤔 The cover of this book does look really lovely and I think you're right - Disney probably loved the sweetness and the animals, and was inspired by the imagery and the potential for pretty music, etc. :)

Yes, I think if you read the bio of the author, Kenneth Graham on Wikipedia, it touches on some of what inspired Wind in the Willows, if memory serves 😆 I did try to up my editing game on this video, lol I've forgotten that KZbin is about more than just sitting in front of a camera... as for trying again to read it: you've gotta mentally prep yourself for it 😆

In the movie Toad was framed because he tried to get a conteact to have access to the car. He didn't know it was a stolen motor car. The bartender revealed in trial that it was stolen and toad was shocked over it because Toad believed it was their car. I haven't read the book however I feel Disney did clarify Toad as innocent. His behavior could be the embodiment of aristocratic fascination over the material

Corrections sorry*: so toad was framed he made a contract with the weasels and the Bartender he wasnt aware that the car was stolen he just noticed they were driving it and wanted to pay up for the car in the form of a contract. Disney never left it ambiguous
