Very true, even the''Hawaii Civil Rights Commission'' is corrupt. We lost very unfair case that was filed to the Civil Rights Commission bc we didn't have a lawyer representing us. Everyone think that they're on your side, No if you want to win your case, you must have clout to win your case even at the HCRC, so corrupt !

I got talked into living out here in Oahu by military husband Us both thinking he would have time to spend together before deployment Not really at all I've been stuck here and would've already left, but I brought my dogs out there and I'm trying to get them out of here as well I have Autism, so making a bunch of friends and doing all of those things is really hard for me Just been isolated from my family and everything I ever knew and loved for over a year Hawaii is great if you are prepared for it I was NOT prepared to be left on this island by myself and have a car breakdown and then to get my dog sick with no way to know how to get them to the vet It can Heaven to some And Hell for others I had some Heaven But, now I just feel island fever and trapped Just me being honest

The only reason why hawaii is so hard to lived by is because of it's high and expensive standard of living! Hawaii is only good for those who can afford to meet the standard of living!

Hawaii definitely isn't for everyone. Island fever can also be a challenge, especially if you're a carnivore traveler! Great handle. 🙂 If you leave, hang onto your house if you can - having a small mortgage is a coveted position to be in for homeowners, and the rent on that might just help fund your retirement. I’ve lived in Hawaii for 33 yrs been here since I was 13. I really loved the people and food I finally had a kid at 40 with a Hawaiian Filipino girl and I’m 46 now making $45 and hour and I can’t afford to buy anything worth a shit and I’m not living in Waianae the traffic sucks we are probably going to move in a few years all I do is go to work 5-6 days a week with nothing to show except go to the beach whenever I like I’m over it. I feel blessed to have spent most of my life here but it’s time to go no Hawaiians no Aloha and you can feel the Aloha dying more and more every year!

The life longevity statistic is misleading. Affluent older people moving into Hawaii live longer due to better insurance, living and eating habits, less stress due to nice retirement incomes, etc. This skews the results.

All good points! Hawaii is #1 in many different longevity lists and there's a lot of speculation on why that is. Whatever the reasons, I like those odds. May we all live long! 🤙

Have you ever lived in Hawaii? I’ve been living in Hawaii for almost 20 years. The people here are different first of all they’re laid-back like really laid-back. Stress is one of the biggest killers of Americans and it ain’t like that here. Even on Oahu… and if you go to the big island, life is positively pedestrian there. Even the Hawaiian lava is so laid-back that you can easily outrun it and we also don’t have people walking around the streets with AK-47s, that an a lack of violent crime here compared to so many of those beautiful gun tooting red states is probably also a big factor on why longevity is much better in Hawaii than it is in Alabama or Texas. Last thing is people here probably eat better most of the time they’re eating some kind of fish. A very Japanese and Asian inspired diet here. Poke is all the rage. And Japan has one of the longest life expectancies.😊🤙🏻

I think there also points you didn't mention like lots of homeless in urban areas, crime like car break ins, drugs, traffic, and noise in urban areas. You also see a trend of people move out of urban areas to suburbs and more rural areas.

No law enforcement (not the personnel, the verb). Why not live on the beach if people let you; beautiful sun-sets, ocean breeze, the sound of the surf,... why not? The bleeding hearts closed the asylums in the 80's and let people out to fend for themselves for freedoms sake. It felt good to give freedom to individuals, but they forgot those people had issues in fitting-in and understanding... hence the huge homeless population.

2024 US cost of living index is highest in California. Hawaii second. No problems if living in California. I would say NYC too. Hawaii costs are the status quo.

No, Hawaii has general excise tax, which is a tax on businesses who can pass on the expenses to customers (which everyone does). It sure makes it feel like a sales tax
