I just got the 240 back in my life and it’s my favorite camera thus far. I wanted the m10, but instead of going with that I bought the 28mm elmarit instead and I’ve enjoyed shooting this combo as a daily carry. And if people really want a “film” experience, the 240 is the perfect medium between film and digital.

The M240 is a great camera. I've had M240 for about eight years now, and it's a perfect tool for me as a press photographer. The handling of the M240 is a bit faster than the M10 and M11. I love my M-P240 and M240. They are great companions.

I have m240 since launch, I switched from Hasselblad to phaseone then Leica S for my commercial work but my 35 system is still m240, I even sold my m10 and kept m240. its the longest serving camera in my arsenal and I won't switch unless it stops working.

Thanks a lot for yr video. I own a M240 and a M8.2 Safari with Elmarit 28/2.8. The frame lines in the M8.2 match perfect with the lens. No crop error. I love the colours of the M8.2, the never ending roll of Kodachrome. I'm born in 1962 so I did most of my slides with Kodachrome. I still have abt 500 of them. The M240 colours - Leica lens or not - have a grey touch... lightroom needed. I never adjust pics from the 8.2. They are perfect and mp is enough.

How long have you had the M240 for? I bought one back in 2018 and I love it. Have you had yours serviced/adjusted since you got it? I'm curious if the digital Ms need rangefinder adjustments every so often like the film ones do.

For my part, I intend to invest in either the M240 P or the M262 to kick-start my entry into the world of Leica. Not for fashion's sake, but more for a new way of doing things and a different philosophy of photography. I confess that it was the Fuji X100V that made me take this decision, because even though the Fuji was exceptional, it had too many functions, including video, which was not useful. Finally, in terms of functionality, the M240P or the M262 are advantageous for their autonomy, but video on the M240 seems useless to me.

Great video. Very true. I just bought an M8. Returning it 3 days later. Why? Because I thought the M8 would be something to play around with while my a7r iv was my main camera. However I love the M shooting experience so I want to get a M240 or M10 because the M8 can’t be my daily carry due to some of its limitations

I had to pause, & back foot it to make sure I heard you correctly when you said $1k! What lens came on it? = you lucky dog! I get the Leica/ range finder experience & keeping it simple so you can concentrate on the craft thing but in your opinion, does the Leica cameras (with Leica glass) render color any better or uniquely compared to other 35mm dslr cameras? Always wondering about that when seeing nicely saturated photos online. Thanks for any replies.

Ted, hey! I think lens selection is subjective, but I do absolutely love the Leica summilux 50mm. The warm color and how sharp it is at 1.4 is unparalleled in any other lens I've ever owned. That being said, I shoot a lot with the Zeiss 50 1.5 Zm because of how imperfect it is as a lens. I'm not sure if that helps at all but subjectively leica lenses are great, but you could probably get 90% there with something cheaper.

Excellent review, very useful. Just one quick question, how easy is the focusing relative to the M10? which I have tried, was great, but too expensive
@vega35mm762 жыл бұрын
It's all relative. The focusing experience should be very similar if not the same (I can't remember if the viewfinder magnification is different). But it's really for you to decide. I have heard many photographers claim that focusing on a Leica is so much better and faster than any autofocus camera. That was not the case for me. It was very frustrating at first and it made me much slower. I am starting to get used to it, but I think it really depends on the person

Great review. Thanks for sharing. I'm now on the verge of trading my Leica Q for a Leica M240, since the even when the IQ of the Q is amazing, the feeling of the P&S concept is a bit too similar to my Ricoh GRIII and I might "enjoy" a bit more an M camera to complement the Ricoh. What do you think? It would be my first rangefinder.

That TTArtisan 50mm is an excellent/sharp lens, but the size and weight was not what I liked about moving to Leica and sold it for a Zeiss 50mm f2 Planar as it's replacement. Is it worth it if I trade my Leica Q for a Leica M240?
@SourPlanet5 ай бұрын
Rando here. I traded my Q116 towards my M240 and I'm super happy. The Q approaches feeling like a digital camera proper, the M still feels like a machine. Heavy, industrial clunk with every action, no EVF. You can ignore LCD and it doesn't even feel like shooting digital. I thought I would miss my Q but the M is just too good.

I have a question, why are Leica lenses special and are there lenses that compete with Leica
@timriddick22 жыл бұрын
That is a great question. I think everything is super subjective to the creator. I personally, used to think that Leica lens were all hype until I got my hands on a 50 Summilux and was absolutely blown away with the lens. I think some would a few of Zeiss m mount lenses compete with a few of Leica’s. I think they (Leica) are special because of how small they are and how they render images. I had a 50 summicron v3 that I wasn’t crazy about but I’ve heard nothing but positive things about the version 5 of that same lens
@Chris-ey7zy2 жыл бұрын
There is something magical and Special about Leica lenses. It can be subtle or non clinical. I have the summicron 90mm 2.0. It does these weird flares where it’s brownish. It’s the old non asph one. I had a 50mm summicron can sold for money and now I miss it 5 years later. It’s hard to explain but it has its own look and personality that I don’t have on my Zeiss 1k lenses which I do like but not Love. Leica is more personal that’s probably better way to put it

Nah. The M240 is junk. I wouldn't bother buying one now that the M11 is pushing so many used M10 cameras to market. If you buy an M240 now, you need to be aware that it's going to be VERY hard to sell them on later with so many M10 available at reasonable prices. A decent used M10 is not much more expensive in Leica terms than the M240. The M10 is a much better camera in EXPONENTIAL terms, yet is less than twice as expensive as the M240. The M10 is a "forever" camera, its performance will last you a lifetime whereas the M240 image falls apart rather quickly the moment ideal light goes away and ANY mirrorless camera you can buy now for half the money usually has better performance and image quality. Why bother?! Do yourself a favor and save up some additional money to buy an M10, a camera you will be satisfied with for the rest of your life whereas you will have buyer's remorse after buying the M240 the moment you try to push a RAW file just a little because you needed to go to ISO3200. The M240 hasn't been worth it in 2020, 2021 and it certainly is not worth it in 2022.
@timriddick22 жыл бұрын
I respectfully disagree. No camera is a forever camera. I can guarantee someone who isn’t sure they will even enjoy the rangefinder shooting experience should try something cheaper than jumping to the m10 and then use that camera to resell to get into the camera they want IF they like it. I’m also certain in 5 years people will say that other photographers should skip the m10 because their opinion is that it is junk. It’s all subjective. No right or wrong answer but the m9 has currently sold on eBay from anywhere between 1800-3200. Leica’s depreciation just isn’t as quick as other camera manufacturers.
@ChrisSaunders Жыл бұрын
Fast forward 11months from this video, and the M240 is going for around 3400 and you’re paying 5-6k or more for the M10. I think your recommendation holds up, and even in 2023 the M240 looks like a good deal.

@SourPlanet5 ай бұрын
Market saturation is always common when a body upgrade drops. Then the prices even out shortly after. The M240 still has great resell value, as does the m10. Not that it matters. M240 is just as badass as it was when it came out. People just require convenience. Talking about being annoyed because they can't push their ISO3200 shots lol. Go buy a Sony and Topaz.
