As I understand it, Rebecca was specifically written by Germans in order to penetrate the English-language market for musicals. It enjoyed a modest success - outside the English language regions of the world. And I think it is not bad. But it made no impact in London or on Broadway. Perhaps if a young Helene Fischer had been its star (as was mooted), things might have been different. Now, the lady with the perfect "Klangfarbe", and the most beautiful face you will ever see, wastes her time on Akrobatik. So it is too late.
