What really makes this movie impressive is that back then cinema was still a developing art form. Actors and actresses were still figuring out how to emote and deliver their lines with their own unique personalities. Nowadays acting has almost a formulaic copy-and-paste style to it, but back then Jimmy was getting to do what he thought was right for the character, and the end result is that so many other actors looked to him for inspiration because he was so original in his time.

Jimmy didn't tolerate rubbish. He said exactly what he felt and thought and that is such an admirable quality - because much of the time, he was right. It would have been amazing to see what he would have gone on to do, he had such great talent. Jimmy was himself throughout and many have said he wasn't really acting. Such a genius, he made acting look all too easy. Jimmy did what Jimmy liked and didn't give a damn what others thought about him. That is rare and so admirable imo. It sometimes got him into trouble, but it doesn't change the fact he was a great talent. He was a great, sensitive talent.

I think she's only 17 or 18 here and not many can look that beautifully put together and glamorous at that age, even if they are beautiful, so I find it funny and even a little sad that her character looks unhappy with her appearance for a second, like she's found a zit or something 🤣 I also love how her character goes from kind of mean to really loving and motherly. I've seen more modern movies where the popular girl ditches the cool boyfriend for the nicer oddball and becomes nicer so I feel like she was one of the OG's in that department :) And James Dean was incredible, as well as their other costar. James Dean is a case of what might have been. Imagine him and a young Marlon Brando in a film together!
