I miss the days of when I was able to play in qualifiers for the junior super series. Competitive magic for the young kids was good times.

Australia had its standard Regional Championship over the last weekend. I was all over the social media of the event organiser/operators (admittedly that was barely more than a facebook page) trying to get info on meta, deck lists top 8 and the winner. They didn't stream the event and even after posting a top 8 pic and saying stay tuned I had to message the next day before a post of who won went up. I miss so much of the old tournament coverage from videos to reports to discussion of the side board answers and innovations. Glad to see you are starting to put information out there again.

It's rough out there when all the infrastructure we used to have for the competitive scene died. Happy to help bring it back.

I’m a diehard, draft and standard is basically it for me! Someone brought convoke to std at the store Saturday, so now I have to build to beat a top deck of the format😢 ( the store is normally just brews)

Moving away from standard already? Still learning but I'm sure I'll get into Pioneer and Modern soon.

Oh we'll still be rocking out standard, but we intend to expand our format selection as time goes on. - Riktus

I hate paper. Expensive, have to meet someone. It's so hard if you're an introvert. Arena is great for me. I can play tons of matches without leaving my home.

I must be a novelty - a boomer who prefers Arena to paper :-)

Both certainly have their place, but for high level competition, arena seems infinitely better to me (no cheating possible, fair time divide between players, speed shuffling, etc...) - Riktus

@MartinSparkes-BadDragon I'm from a country where people make $10-20 / day for minimum wage. My family was well of. I used to steal $10/day from my mom's money drawer sometimes more, just to be able to play paper MTG. This was during the mirrodin block. Then WOTC banned the ravager deck. It was a total loss for me. That's one of the reasons I love Arena. I've spent less than $20 and basically have all the top decks in standard. More decks, more games, less time wasted, less money spent. I also would love the World championship to be on arena again. I didn't even watch last year's. Because I can't even tell or see what was going on? The interface of Arena is just great for viewing.

The moment they add a proper spectator mode on arena and use it for competitive play, it'll be undeniable how much better it is for viewers. Zero confusion or ambiguity at every stage of the game is what we all want. - Riktus

An other issue with magic and a good topic for discussion would be the power creep. I remember when I was 14-15 and loved Yu-Gi-Oh, i switched to magic because I didn't want to study for exams every time I wanted to build a.deck. Big texts with tiny letters and a plethora of effects only make the game more boring. Also with power creep they force rotate eternal formats and casual like Commander... I beg my playgroup to leave out the commander sets because my brain is melting with all the texts .. lastly commander decks need a card update almost every year... New cards make older ones obsolete...

I'll be genuine at the risk of pitch forks coming at me from the EDH community, but one reason I can't take Commander seriously as a competitive format (cEDH) is that a massive card pool negates much of the skill involved in deckbuilding. Standard is as fun as it is because of the limited card pool and many ways to build similar archetypes. With Commander it's always a Herculean task to actually try to come up with anything decent without aligning with the templates of what "good" decks are online. It's too much and I don't have the time for it if I'm trying to be competitive in other formats. -MAX
