old southern white woman and survivor here to 'like" Rebel Diaz' musical Renaissance and Revolution To quote PDX City Councilor Joann Hardesty, "Stay angry. Don't quit."

Joann was my favorite in the People's Republic of Portland. Great radio host, too. I moved my family to Portugal when political prospects got too bleak, sometimes I wonder if I should have stayed to fight.

This song's mention of Haymarket brings to mind the first few MayDay Marches in Chicago in over 100 years, starting in the late 90's, when it was Anarchists and Communists, before it became an immigrant labor focused march and became huge. Two beautiful scenes that stick in my head. One was of a Black Bloc anarchist talking to a Catholic Priest, no idea what they were talking about, but they were obviously agreeing. Behind them was a massive banner Queer to the Left brought that said "We're for Fucking, not Starbucking". Another was this poor horse that was obviously suffering under the weight of the porcine slave trader for the prison industrial complex on its back, so I started a chant "Get that pig, off of that horse!" That was quickly picked up by the nearest 100 people to the horse. The horse understood, and took the encouragement and began trying to throw off the pig oppressing it, at which point I changed the chant to "The Horse Is On Strike". Both chants were so obvious that once they heard them, it was as obvious a chant to join at the moment as "From the River to the Sea, Nazis fear equality" is today. The pig on horseback herding us onto the sidewalk so we didn't block traffick ended up blocking 4 lanes of traffic as his horsed revolutionarily danced across the street trying to liberate itself. It was glorious.
