Kanan was the living epitome of a perfect Jedi. Protected the weak and innocent, adhered to the Jedi Code, trained a Padawan in the ways of the force, combatted the Sith and fought injustice wherever he saw it. He even realized something the Jedi Order never could. That compassion and love were a Jedi's greatest strength. His love for Hera only fueled his connection to the Force. The complete opposite of what love did to Anakin. Caleb Dume truly was a Jedi Master.

Is because Dave Filoni is the true Padawan of George Lucas. As much as I hate to admit a great part of me feels Luke needed a whole other movie to redeem himself. It should not have been all left to Rey. Kanaan died at peace, while Luke clearly seemed like he had lots of unfinished bussines.

@marvinko66107 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear there are others. I was under the impression that at least most of Reddit hates his guts. And if he ever get's a movie I want it to be something insignificant to the fate of the Galaxy. I feel like Rebels shines the most when it makes you care for the small things in the Galaxy and not the war as a whole
@theexile83877 жыл бұрын
Marvin Kö why would most of reddit hate his guts? His TCW series is constantly praised on the Star Wars subreddit (theres a TCW appreciation like thread highly upvoted every other week) and while rebels has a mixed response from fans, I don't see anything really approaching hatred. Outside of SW, Avatar was another stellar animation, albeit most of his work was in the early seasons, which weren't my favorite, but they were very important as far as world building creating likable characters.

I just discovered Rebels 5 years after this aired. I was watching it in preparation for the Ahsoka live series. And boy did it deliver. But these episodes, when Kanan sacrifices himself to save his family, I just bawled. Ugly fat tears. I wanted to scream at the world. Such a wonderful character. And just as he and Hera were finally getting serious about their relationship and making plans for the future. It just sucked! I'm glad they spent an entire episode with the cast dealing with the grief. Poor Hera. Her second oldest friend is the only one who can give her comfort. She is truly broken. And Kanan is absolutely her family. Something that we'll come to see later at the end of the series and in Ahsoka. He gives her one last gift - their son. It's funny. I grew up with the OT and thought Luke Skywalker was the epitome of what a Jedi should be. But now I think it's Kanan Jarus/Caleb Dume. He had the true balance of the force. Dedication to the Jedi ways and yet a strong attachment to his rebel family. That's why he was able to sacrifice himself to save them and save the rebellion. Freddie prinze Jr did a good job bringing his character to life in voice. I know we've seen a photograph of him in the live action series Ahsoka but I kind of hope we see him again in live action. He would make an awesome force ghost for his son.

Even the Rebels Recon video corresponding to this episode is a Tear Jerker in and of itself. Series creator Dave Filoni recalled that during the recording session, he gave the cast a script missing only the last two pages, and things proceeded like a recording any other episode... And then he showed them the storyboards of that scene. *The* *emotional* *line* *delivery* *from* *the* *cast,* *in* *this* *episode* *and* *its* *follow-up,* *is* *completely* *genuine.* Filoni was so attached to this particular story arc that he's struggling to keep it together when trying to do his interview, and Freddie Prinze Jr. is actually shown tearing up.

Before you know it, Disney executives will have him replaced and have someone come in to do lots of reshoots to please the producers. An interesting fact, the voice actor for the giant Loth-wolf DUME is credited only as "The Force"

I felt a hundred times more feels with Kanan passing than I did for Luke. Hat tip to everyone producing Rebels. Thanks.

I'm sad about this but the one that I truly hope survives this is Grand Admiral Thrown. I was introduced to him here and read his book. He is a near perfect enemy. He is not with the Empire to be evil he is in it to try and save the galaxy. I would be devastated if he died in this series.

Andrew Sargent tbh I think he’s safe, in a similar way to Rex also likely being safe. I think he has a role to play in the future, just as Rex probably does in Return of the Jedi. Also they did kinda send him to Coruscant in this episode and he’ll likely be there next week too, so it keeps him out of the fighting.
@AaronKelley19697 жыл бұрын
Thrawn is confirmed to survive this because the soon to be released 2nd Thrawn book happens during and after the events of this story. Anyone wanting to know about Thrawn's meeting with the Emperor should read it when it comes out. I wonder if the Rebels will make the story?
@LocalShark227 жыл бұрын
Really? I assumed that that book would take place in between Season 3 and Season 4, so I do hope you're right. I bet Rebels will show the meeting with the Emperor though- no way Ian McDiarmid was only called in for that one seemingly vision-based scene with Ezra from the trailers

Aaron Kelley I'm relieved by that and I plan on reading it as soon as it comes out.

Its like what Obiwan said to Anakin. Your lightsaber is your life. Kanan had lost his lightsaber earlier.

This was so awesome and sad at the same time. Not like episodes before where some ppl said: blablabla, here should have someone died. It would have had no impact! Shows that dave and co. know how to write a meaningful story.

Love how the cast and creators of this show, understands how important self sacrifice is for a characters arc, to build the importance for the greater good. one word... Rose...

Easily one of the best episodes, if not the best, of Rebels up to date. Some of the greatest dramatic, emotional moments we've had, skilled, meaningful story development (including first class imperial treachery and power plays), tie-ins with other stories, one of Kevin Kiner's best works on Rebels, backing all that greatness up and amplifying it even further ... I don't know where to start or end. (That ash-gray Rebels screen!) Also worth mentioning: Especially great episode of Rebels Recon, particularly Steve Blum's take on Zeb's reaction. Rest was great as well, naturally.

Kanan started to give me vibes at the beginning of the episodes that he was on his way out. The way it was handled was wonderful, and the following episodes giving the audience time to mourn with the characters really drove it home. I think this is the strongest point of emotion I've gotten with this series. Two more episodes next week, then the finale.

I did want Kanan to die at Vaders hand but this was handled well. Very Well. That scene is so chilling with the emotion, the music, the visual. Man Kanan was the best original Character from the Show. I'm going to miss him. I wish the show was more about him. He's definitely within my top Ten favorite Jedi

I always interpreted the X-wing's S-foil spreading as a way to dissipate heat more effectively, allowing it to fire off more shots without overheating.

I knew this was coming, but I had been preparing myself for losses way closer to the finale.... I’m still trying to process everything. it was nice to see each of the crew grieving in their own ways. it added new depths to their characters. I hope that even while they continue to fight that they’ll be given more time to mourn when they need it.

Who's re-watching in 2023 as a prep for Ahsoka?

I was so emotionally caught up in the moment when I first watched, that I didn't even realize that Kanan's eyes were restored by the Force in that one moment. To me, he never lost his vision, simply gained more insight. I started crying again when they played the scene back and it showed his eyes restored. Dave is a true visionary, and the best storyteller of the new generation of Star Wars. Looking forward to the bittersweet ending of the show. MTFBWY, always

Rubén Gabriel Valdivieso Machicao well duh. It was clear from the start that at the very least kanan and Ezra were gonna die at some point unless Ezra stopped being a Jedi (like ahsoka). But since it doesn’t look like he plans on stopping being a Jedi he is 100% gonna die
