Any character can be an asshole, but it takes good writing to make them funny and relatable. If a character is an asshole just for the sake of being an asshole, that makes them pretty much impossible to relate to and care for. Every asshole character needs something else to them, maybe some tragic backstory that explains why they are the way they are or maybe they just choose to be an asshole because they're afraid of getting attached to people. They clearly didn't do a good job of making an asshole character here, but I guess we can use a bad example like this to make us appreciate the lovable assholes we do have.

You're not supposed to care for him. Your supposed to long for him to get punched or punished! It's only towards the very end that you begin to see him more as pitiable than bad. His fatal flaw was having 1 over-indulgent narcissistic parent. That's not really a reason to like him but by the end of the series he begins to accept his new surroundings and by then you do begin to relate to him.

Another one of those adult shows that seem to ride off the Family Guy approach of comedy. Be as offensive and satirical as possible to the point there is no point of reality where the comedy is acceptable. Sorry.....opted out of the show when they tried to take a "relationship" with a 7 year old and a 70 year old seriously. There is a fine line to where the joke no longer bends but breaks and seizes to be funny.....Allen Gregory never got to that point as it broke around the first episode.

I don't really get offended by Family Guy. I'm a Christian and I love it. I will admit the Simpsons is better at making God jokes. I hate the abortion episode and Not all Dogs go to heaven I understand not everyone can believe in God but that was just mean spirited it wasn't funny. And in one episode Stewie almost committed suicide and didn't know what religion to pick. That felt out of character for Stewie. That sounds more like a Meg problem she is the sad sack of the family.
