absolutely fantastic. we are extremely blessed to have this wisdom from Venerable Analyo. Bringing his analytic and meditative experience to western audiences is priceless. He is one of the leading buddhist scholars of our time. He and Bikku Bodhi are such treasures. Thanks

Thank you for this conversation! And for sharing the chanting of the boy 🙏 Bhante Analayo is remarkable. He is quite an accomplished scholar, yet he is very humble. He can read all Buddhist texts in their original language (pali, sanskrit, chinese, tibetan)... And he is also a meditator (he used to spend half of every week on retreat, maybe he still does). He is a gem! Providing great light for Buddhism in our time 🙏🙏🙏☀️🌸🌼🌺

Yes almost all his scholarly books are available freely online PDF from. Just do a search. They are academic / scholarly books. Edited to add: He is very generous to make them available for all of us. Yet I buy them as hard copies, in a way to contribute to his work/effort.

The whole discussion I found fascination and come away with a better understanding of the concept of rebirth, a subject that has always interested me. However, for me the most valuble lesson i got from Bhikkhu Analayo talk was in the last five or so minutes regarding mindfulness meditation practice and exploring the different technigues and find which one most resonates with you, another subject of intrest to me.

Modern research on Near Death Experience by Raymond moody, reincarnation memories by Ian Stevenson/Jim trucker and past lives regression by Brian Weiss all independently but coincidentally show that our consciousness survive death, we live many lives and our thoughts and actions matter in the hereafter. This is in line with Buddhist teachings. So be kind and helpful to others, be virtuous, meditate and cultivate ourselves to higher spiritual levels. Cheers.

I would 'imagine' that Buddha was very capable of seeing the future because he did a whole lot more meditation than I... and I have done so. I have found that my NDE opened my lid to more siddhi's than I would choose ; ) After 24 years i have gotten a better handle on it. It feels like i don't have a lot of choice and i have learned to trust it. Sometimes in meditation the NDE state descends upon me and consumes the others in my Sanga until i come out of it. They have no choice and they don't complain and I have never told them why it is happening to them. When I pull out of the state then they begin to breathe stronger and come back in. If any of this can be of help well... here! I am happy to discuss this further if anyone is interested.

The pronunciation of verses in the chanting by the boy is unmistakably of the Sinhalese Buddhist community. The singing style also is of the rural folk type, typical of village lay elders. Bikkhu Analayo's introductory remarks regarding stylistic oddities would not be without contest therefore. A well known expert in the stylistic field of folk tunes in Sri Lanka is by the name of Massimbula. The first name escapes immediate recall.

The Tibetan young monks still memorize texts without understand them. Some monks study the meaning years later. Some keep repeating it without much understanding.
@y9w16 жыл бұрын
Alicia Montero The Burmese do it too. A lot! In fact they have monks that memorized the whole tipitaka... The tipitaka sayadaws. They are tested etc, it's quite something.
@aliciamontero70616 жыл бұрын
tom wool I had heard about it. Some muslims memorize the Quran, but I think the tipitaka in pali is much longer. After all Lord Buddha was teaching about 50 years and the canon includes also some teachings by his foremost disciples, so It is really a lot of texts. I think the Burmese monks learn parts of the tipitaka and other monks learn others. Very few monks probably memorize all the Scriptures.
@y9w13 жыл бұрын
@@aliciamontero7061 Yes only a few monks memorize the 3 baskets. When I was living in Burma about 12 years ago, they were only 7 "tipitaka sayadaws" 🙏

Utter nonsense discourse .Those western with Abrahamic and materialistic residual distorted buddha and his teaching.Its better not to address as buddhist rather materialist or Abrahamic faith .No problem in that.One can disagree with rebirth but problem occurs when they interpolate their own thoughts in name of buddha .They are enough to perish budhism.

@Max Ragged Of cause but you dont know what the buddha realy teached and if this are the real words of the Buddha. But by the way just because the Buddha said it, it also can be a contradiction and it is. From buddhist view point there is nothing that reincarnates so there cant be any pastlife memories.

@Max Ragged Your answer is quite pointless. It has nowthong to do with a discussion. You just avoid it. Instead you tell me who long you studdy Buddhism and how young you where when you start and who your teachers were. A lot of ego is going on here and it dont impress me at all.

Wow, so where is this child? This whole thing is super fishy. Very disappointing. And why aren't they talking about the Tibetan "rebirths" of all the heads of these various sects? Where's the Dalai Lama -- he should be the expert since he was a rebirth case himself as well as being the person who decrees others as reborn Lamas. Here they are Buddhists but they're talking about Stephenson, not Dalai Lama?
@garypuckettmuse6 жыл бұрын
No he's talking about something that happened in PRESENT TIME. He said this kid was doing this in the 1970's. Hello? So where is the guy now to stand up and tell his own story? And where are these "recordings". Really some people will buy anything . . .Can I sell you a bridge?
