@AlaskaDuckDynasty2 ай бұрын
When there’s no threat of the downfield pass everything is monumentally more difficult. I don’t know that Moore is in over his head, I think Jim left the offensive cupboard pretty bare. The WR depth is non-existent, the O-Line just isn’t up to par, and obviously there was no development of Orji last year, which has caused Michigan to be totaly unprepared this year. Can a run game and a defense get you 8 wins? Sure. But it’s going to take a year or two, and a serious investment of NIL to rebuild all these deficiencies. But I don’t think any of these issues are due to Moore being “over his head”.
@ryanbailey442 ай бұрын
The lack of discipline and missed assignments is concerning, but he is a first year head coach who has inherited a very difficult situation; ongoing disciplinary issues with the NCAA; the vacuum left by a recently departed, legendary head coach; a spoiled fan base setting unrealistic post-national championship expectations. I'm not saying the guy shouldn't be held accountable, but he does deserve some time to establish himself.

I don't blame Sherrone for picking Davis. He has good accuracy when he's protected, but as soon as he had pressure he'd throw a pick and didn't know how to throw the ball away. A few thoughts: During the spring game, every pundit was "amazed" at how well Warren threw the ball. So, it was no surprise he started, even though he could not run. Orgi was observed throwing the ball into the ground on a regular basis, much like he did with his second pass of the season (not at all good for the resume for starting QB). This defense would be a whole lot stouter if Martindale could figure out a way to stop the "stupid" penalties that happen on 3rd down, extending the opposition's possession (ala last years D RARELY taking a penalty). That is purely on the coach. Donovan is a great open field runner, but does not, nor ever has had "vision" for the opening in the line. He is quick enough to have "masked" it on several runs, but not as the every down RB. The one criticism I have always had concerning Harbaugh was his never ending flirtations with the NFL. It has now cost UM BIG TIME in recruiting, leaving them with a very empty QB room. And we still don't know if Jayden Davis will be the real deal either. Hopefully, but not assured. Moore was the "game time" HC, but Harbaugh was the week time HC, so Moore's "HC experience" is 3 games and counting. Will he be a good one/bad one? Not enough to go on at this point. He has certainly made a number of rookie blunders thus far though. My thinking on UM's season total before the season began (actually since the end of last season) was they would end up at 8-4 or if they played above expectations, 9-3. After watching this team so far, it looks like it could very well be 7-5 or 8-4, unless something really drastic happens, like maybe they start playing more disciplined football on BOTH sides of the ball.
@MissionForward32 ай бұрын
Opposing defenses will stack the box against our young O-Line. I believe we should expect that... For Orji to be successful, run blocking has got to be better... On defense, we have to be much better in getting off the field on 3rd down. If those two things don't happen fast, the Orji experiment will fail. I have to believe the coaching staff was planning upon Tuttle filling this one year gap between JJ and Jadyn but Jack's injuries ended up more complex than anticipated leaving them with limited choices.... We'll see how it goes. Hopefully team 145 will rally around Alex and give him all the support he needs... GO BLUE!

Mullings is your A-typical Michigan power running back and I love it. Edwards is not. However he has more speed and elusive ability. With Orji mostly running out of the shotgun it will lead to more outside runs for Edwards and I think will be one of his better games. Edwards in space is significantly better than Mullings in between the tackles. There’s a reason Don was so highly rated and hopefully we’ll see that now with the different play style. It will be much harder now with possible NCAA sanctions looming (harder to get kids to take the risk of bans, etc by coming to Ann Arbor). However, if they can make that last jump, then they will be right there with Georgia, OSU, Bama. Just my 2 cents.

Clearly OSU fans are in denial that their mediocre overrated 5 star players on defense were bullied in the trenches thus giving up 10 rushing tds in the 3 Ls they took against Michigan. The offense bases nothing off of defensive signals. They call plays before the defense does. Please educate yourself on how the game of football is played before you make bafoonish comments. Defense's base their play calling on offensive personnel. 10 man, 11 man, 12 man and 13 man personnel. The offense dictates what move the defense needs to call based off of formation and personnel.

Love your show. I think Orji will make a huge difference for UM on offense. He can keep the LBs honest with his legs, he can slow down the edge rushers who have been crashing all season. Those two things will be benefits to the offensive line and allow for more big runs. I also think once he gets comfortable his passing will come around and the offense as a whole will be a little scary. I don't think he will ever be a Brady or JJ but he could be a combination of a good QB and an excellent runner.

Yes, when your head coach suddenly quits taking with him key vital important assistants and you're stuck with an inexperienced unproven HC and entirely new assistants - "expectations" should be "we will likely suck balls ". And we do. Thanks Harbaugh.

Michigan fan here. I've been watching your podcast for years now Steve. I almost couldn't disagree with you more. Sharon Moore was a horrible hire. He and the coaching staff can't develop any players. The wide receivers are worse than most high school teams. The offensive line went from stud to dud. The play calling is absolutely beyond pathetic. There are High school teams right down the street from where I live that run a more sophisticated offense. All of these things fall on the head coach. Even Tom Brady got picked in games even after he was a shoe in first ballot Hall of famer. My point is Davis Warren would do better with more experience under his belt. At least he CAN throw the ball. Alex orgy came in three times on 3rd and short against Texas he averaged -1 yd. He will be a nothing Burger. Mark my words. Hell, what's Jack Tuttle doing besides raising raising a family with three kids. We did win The Natty. And I'm damn happy about that. But Sharon Moore and the game show host known as wink Martindale need to pack up and head out of town. So I'm praying for a 4 and 8 season.

Harbaugh left the cupboard bare. They didnt recruit a QB in 22 or 23 and thats not Moores fault. Moore actually has a signed QB for 25 AND 26 class. You can definitely argue Moore dropped the ball by not picking up a QB in the portal, in fact, he did very little in the portal this year and it shows. That could be blamed on the fact hes a first-year coach and was not ready

@@freedomthefreeman487 REAL football minds know playing QB in practice is NOTHING like games. They never get hit in practice. @cimirie012 ай бұрын
@@josephallen8044 - I don’t need to be. And that’s not being flip. By every measure currently, our offense is looking at mediocrity as aspirational. This offense do any work with Warren at the helm. Even when he’s not throwing INT, it’s plodding along and uninspired. Best case was 8 wins and that wasn’t looking certain. Enter Alex Orji. Could he be a disaster? Sure. I don’t see that happening, but it absolutely is a potential. But if our choices are “disaster” and “aspiring to mediocrity” is there really much difference at the end of the day? But if you look at when he has come in and plays are called to his strength, the offense moves. Even when he doesn’t get the ball, he makes the defense play more reactionary and it opens things up. That’s exactly what happened back in the day with Denard Robinson - and by every conceivable measure Orji can throw orders of magnitude better than Denard. And people are making a big deal about his one completely lousy throw when ice cold in game 1. It was unquestionably bad. But his quick read TD on his first throw was a thing of beauty. THAT is the type of throw he is capable of making and that is what they should be asking of him off an RPO. Bottom line is that Warren isn’t a good passer. He may be better than Orji, but Orji gives the offense a mother dimension and this offense is desperate for a dimension. Orji experiment may not work. But I’d much rather make this logical move than continue to bang my head against the wall with a clearly overmatched Warren.
