You’re in the Pacific Northwest too? I recently acquired one of these Bianchis it is also a 700c that someone had clearly mistreated: crappy green spray bomb job , missing right shifter , left shifter is installed upside down the original colour looks to be red , I’m hoping to breathe some new life into it thankfully I came across your video because I plan to convert mine to 650b as well :) I’m only 5’10 and on a 700c Im having to tiptoe with the seat all the way down

Hi Bullet Bikes! Yep I am in PNW. What size frame is your Bianchi? Best part about these bikes are the rugged tubing that they used to build them. Yes the tubing is a tad heavier but they really have stood the test of time. Are you going to share your progress on social media?

how did the chasing and facing go? thinking about getting my frame powder coated and im not sure if i need to provide the powder coater with placeholder bolts for all the thread points.

The powder coater didn’t chase or face the frame I had that done at a local bike shop. Unfortunately the guy working there scratched the frame in a couple spots which got under my skin so be careful who you take it to. Bolts are good if you don’t want the space where the bolt sits to be coated. I had them fill the threaded holes with tape and other items to keep the threads clean but to also allow the outside of the frame to completely coated. Some people like that some don’t.

@@BenGeldreich Thanks! i was thinking of maybe halfway driving the bolts. but powder might still be pulled in there and maybe fuse the bolt. i'll just communicate to the coater that i want them to mask the threads, they should be able to handle that.

F Martinez that’s a good plan. The other thing to consider is that when bolts are tightened to the bike, like the seat post bolt or water bottle cage bolts it will scratch the powder coat and if you take them on and off a lot it may start to flake off. At least that’s what I’ve been told. What kind of bike are you building?

@@BenGeldreich Yes, that i did come to that realization as well. I decided to simply leave all masking considerations to them, as professionals. We discussed the job and it seemed that the expectations were well understood. Its a steel gravel bike thats new but i wanted to make it my own. decided on a shell pink. should contrast well with all the olive drab and black i tend to gravitate to for clothing and bike accessories ha.

@@fmartinez128 ! Sounds like the shop knows what they are doing! Let us know how it turns out and maybe a link or two to some photos. I'm about to post another video soon on my build, Just the front Honjo fender mounted today working on the back this weekend.

Is there a final results video?

No. Unfortunately due to the pandemic I’ve had to put the bike build on hold. I also can’t get a few needed purchases because the parts are unavailable and have been for almost a year. Assuming that too is due to the pandemic.

Yes the 700c wheels that I’m used to test the clearance need some work. However the next video in the series shows that I got some 650b wheels professionally built for this build.
