Glad you're still getting the car fixed. This channel popped up on my timeline a few weeks ago and now I'm seriously invested in seeing this car on the track.

Hi Michael. Just discovered your channel due to a thumbnail that came up on KZbin. I own Tom’s race car he had before yours and my mate has Jim’s. We bought them when your car was under construction and I had a look at it being built in Brisbane. That would have been around 12 years ago . Tom was a pretty stocky Irishman and he would have had a tight fit in the Speed . He was a former Isle of Man TT racer and had an impressive collection of Race bikes. Good luck with your build

Great video! I've been doing similar swapping a VERY-not-made-for-my-car transmission into it over the winter and having to make a removable transmission tunnel cover. Quick tip for finding pre-existing holes for a panel like you're making: cut the head off a screw and grind it to a point. Thread it into the hole, then use that as a punch for the cardboard or aluminum. Bonus points if you grind flats on either side of the points to use a wrench or pliers to install and remove the punch in the existing threaded hole.

Well done you.... We all have to start somewhere and I think you are doing a cracking job. I started designing, building and racing cars 25 years ago and I'm still on a learning curve. ( present build is a GT40.) Keep up the good work, it WILL be worth it in the end. 1st time out on track testing, and you will forget all about the hassles ..... Jerry ( UK )

Michael, the jigsaw is still the right tool for the job, but you'll need to sandwich small metal sheets between two pieces of sacrificial 4mm MDF (or hardboard) to prevent them from vibrating and ensure a clean cut.

There is three types of shears, you have center cut shears, there is left and right cut shears that go around corners. Normally the handles are different colours so you can tell what one you have

Too bad my dad wasn't still alive as he was a sheet metal worker by trade with over 30 years experience and I'm sure would have done a video chat to help you out. He was one of the construction workers that helped build the Twin Towers in New York City back in the 1970's. He was always called to do any finishing work as he was well known to do things the right way and make it look good. He could weld two pieces of sheet metal together and you wouldn't even see the seam. It'll be 16 years in June since his passing.

I guess I could have. I think I would have ended up templating in cardboard either way, and from that point it's quicker to just trave and cut.
