Hi, did I miss to see it or your frame guy did not basecoated/painted and did not apply any anticorrosion spray to inside of the rails? Same goes to the roof skin, was it at least basecoated for rust protection from inside? I am far away from automotive repairs but it is my understanding that metal that was subjected to extreme heat from welding has tendency to rust like there is no tomorrow... Just my 2 cents.

Copper melts and additionally combines parts and does not allow access to moisture, thanks to which these places do not corrode. Test it. Observed when renovating vintage cars. Greetings. P.S. If you're not sure on the color do the whole thing the original color then wrap what you want different. I'm doing that with the hood on my challenger, I like the color but I catch some serious glare sometimes from the sun and am gonna do a matte black vinyl wrap on it. Almost the best of both worlds and you're not fully committed to having it be 2 colors as you could always peel the wrap off.

@UC__HZLw76GWWfkZ92qH3VVA I'm sure it was checked out, we have been fixing these uni-body cars for years now, and yes, there are some that shouldn't be fixed, this one actually looks like a pretty easy fix, roof could have been repaired, front frame rails always roll, and as for the "SHOCK WAVE" a uni-body car will always buckle the roof or the sail panel, I'm sure he hung gauges on it, and it will track and be align-able, the tires will wear just fine, we had a 69 Camaro with a blower motor that came in and we had to repair a buckle in the roof because when he launched it it pulled the right up too far, car gauged out, scaled out and was in perfect alignment before the roof was even repaired, this car was not a hard it.

Possibly the car crashed against a tree and the branches fell on the roof. That could explain most of the damage.
@realmach56 жыл бұрын
@ Not dents like that, that is 100% from the chassis flexing, I can almost guarantee that's why this car was totaled. If it were just a matter of putting it on a frame rack and replacing some parts the PO's insurance would have fixed it.
@scottgettman49096 жыл бұрын
@@realmach5 The reason these cars total is because of the air bags usually, 90% of the cars we get that total is because of deployed bags, broken dashes and srs parts, insurance companies are not allowed to use anything except new srs components and in the case of this car that is over 10k alone
@realmach56 жыл бұрын
@@scottgettman4909 Indeed, although the insurance companies we deal with seem less likely to repair moderate structural damage than they did 10 years ago when I started. From the ones I've spoken with they all pretty much say they don't want to have to deal with the liability and would rather leave it up to the insured if they want a check. A lot of this is dependent on the car and the insurance though. The companies I typically deal with would have seen the frame rails and roof and wouldn't have even thought twice about totaling it. The bags are just the cherry on top.

@@a.e.4156 oh sorry lol, I miss read the comment. I was posting on another comment section. I watched this guy samcrac do a repair. It wasn't at all what should have happened. But I was tought in school "sectioning" not "welding" and "patching" fixes frame damage.
@rx7what6 жыл бұрын
@@kkellerk23 But he didn't just weld it up. They welded it then add a piece 5 times as thick as the original to it. It also WASN'T frame damage. It was a mount to hold the top of the strut. Not anywhere near the frame of the car(also that car is a unibody car and doesn't have a "frame"). Did he do it the exact way I would have in my shop? No. but what they did is far more than enough to make the car as good as or better than stock. Also whoever told you metal weakens in an accident was smoking crack. Metal can loose some of its ionic bonds at a molecular level by bending it repeatedly back and forth. His car wasn't even in an accident. I don't know what kind of school you were learning about building and repairing car frames but welding and plating is by far the most common and should be done 90% of the time over sectioning and replacing. Especially on any kind of older car or truck that has a actually frame. Look up what a fish plate or fish scale is for frame work. Also learn what a frame is vs a unibody car.

@@FarmerSteveO The problem here would be all the time and money required to restore the car. Mechanics and body shops arent cheap. He's doing all the work by himself (or friends i suppose), but for a normal person it would've been cheaper to simply buy another one, considering the money needed to repair it. Also this car has frame damage. I personally wouldnt spend so much money knowing the car may have other problems some time in the future.

FarmerSteveO The term “total loss” simply means that the cost of repairs exceeds the value of the vehicle; not that the vehicle is not repairable. Usually at that point they typically sell them at auction as a “salvage; rebuildable” vehicle, vs. a “salvage non-rebuildable” which refers to a vehicle that cannot be rebuilt.

Awesome work man! Dang I had no idea the roof was damaged also, but because the frame was bent the way it was it makes sense that the roof took a hit also.

Just saying, there's no such thing as redoing spot welding "holes". There were never any holes to start with! You should maybe look at a resistant spot welder or a conversion to spot for your MIG handpiece. If you're gonna keep doing these, a wise investment. BTW, great video, music still sucks!

grant houghton . Great catch. You were the only one to mention this huge misstep. Drilling weakened the points of contact that the welds need to create the structural integrity of the unibody at the roof. The use of the proper welder, technique, adhesives and the intact roof panel is never optional, it's basic to a proper repair. Even the windshield and back glass contribute to the providing rigidity and strength.

I’ve read about the music, maybe could be more muted or less intrusive. But really enjoyed this journey and all the hidden twists. A good series Alex, I’ll be watching more of your rebuilds
