i presume you probably got the key thing sorted a while ago, but for future reference, piper keys look like you can use a Y11 key blank to duplicate them, and you can have someone take the key to a locksmith and have them read the cuts, then get that info to you and have a local locksmith cut you a key.

Every power plug I've ever seen on a light GA aircraft gets installed as close to the battery as possible, to minimize the length of the heavy cables required. Find the battery, follow the positive cable to find the external power relay, follow the wire from there to the external power plug.

I got locked out of my old plane a Piper 235 (N8556W) long ago. The keys were just sitting on the dash. Of course it was in the middle of the night and at small uncontrolled airport. While rummaging through the small pilot lounge I opened up a cabinet with a ton of keys that went to random stuff around the airport. None of the keys were airplane keys though. However, one of the keys for the mailbox, looked very similar to the cargo door key so I figured I give it a shot. Guess what? It worked! I climbed from the cargo area to the front and was able to open the door. Saved us having to get a locksmith to open the door for us. As always very entertaining video. Thanks for sharing.

Jimmy just a heads up, putting a couple of gallons of gas in a bladder tank does not guarantee that it is good. Bladder tanks tend to dry out on top due to them not being full all the time. The sun bakes the tops of the bladders and if they are not full there is nothing to keep them from drying out and cracking. To really test a bladder tank you'll need to fill each tank to the brim and wait a couple of days to be sure they are leak free.
@dmaeroflyer9279

You’re so correct. I’ve replaced them on a C182Q model. It was leaking at the tube section for the drain. What a pain to replace.
@samrodian919
@samrodian919 2 жыл бұрын
@Feelin' FPV looking logically at it, doing that would prove leak or no leak up to the fuel level but in order to prove the whole bladder you still have to fill it to the brim. I suppose pressurising it will do the proving quicker, if that is actually what you meant.

he said in the video he will need to make at least 3 more trips to get airplane ready to fly, so this trip they worked on the items that could be done without needing to get into the cabin or locked compartments. Plenty of house needed to install new electronic mags, battery, starter. Not a wasted trip, just need to pospone maybe starting engine this time.

Hi Jimmy keep them coming.each video is a master peace. I did have a thought when you showed those wire strippers, i still have mine and inreckon tbey are really the very best. Used a lot for telecom firms tey are made to ajust to the tbickness of both the wire and the insulation and you put the wire in the fron instead of the side, leaving a very neat finish to the insulation and are made so that you dont go banging your hand when the insualtion comes off.. The starboard engine sound very rough to me even though it did not actually light up, almost like it has a problem with either a bad cylinder ar fuel locking. To put a new ring gear and starter looks like a long job, and inwondered if you have to pre heat the ring to drop it over the fly wheel. I just do not understand how a bit of kit like an aircraft get left to die, for starters they are VERY pricey items and do require care ever when not in use, leaving the to elements, to my say some people have more money than sence. I know you can get good covets for a car that does protect the tbing from all the things which mean a lot in terms of cost, so even if its not being flown, it still needs some T.L.C.. This looks like a cract with a number if big problems all because it been out in the open.Something that has always puzzled me is that the engine has to run flat tack or near to it. Why do they not but a gearbox like a car so you can get the prop oerformance without running the engine so hard?? That goes for boats as well, the more revs the engine is pushing to more fuel its using. I was hopping that we might see more on the helechopter as i reckon that was a really good move because it opens the door to changing up in size so you can take the family??????

Jimmy, I suggest you adopt the habit of always making a list of everything you need... a check list to be sure you have what you need when it's needed. Making a list of everything you need to do before heading out for a trip is priceless! It's like pulling into a parking lot and leaving the keys in the car instead of making sure they're in your pocket before locking the car. I keep a spare key on a retractable lead behind the front and rear bumper. Perhaps you could find a place to hide a spare key some place in the landing gear wheel well.

I was an apprentice locksmith a few decades ago and learned the benefits of rekeying locks. One key for the whole house, instead of two keys for each door, for however many doors the house has. If all of your planes use the same key, then it wouldn't make any difference which plane you were going to be flying. I don't know, but I can imagine that the locks would be the same size, just pop the handle off and change the lock cylinder. If planes don't have a steering ignition interlock then you could have a couple of spare ignition locks made up. Then if/when you sell a plane, you could change the locks to a different key for the new owner if you wanted

In the early 70s Astronaut Edgar Mitchell was doing a tour of eastern Oklahoma and his step brother Jim Mitchell, my flight instructor picked me to serve as Edgar's pilot. This was just after Edgar's return from space. Talk about a young 100 hour pilot having a thrill, that was me. It was explained to me that even though he had a military license he couldn't legally fly a civilian aircraft. Spent several days piloting him around Poteau, Ok and many of the other small Oklahoma towns. Not something you forget.

Hello Jimmy, nowadays $1 USD is equivalent to approximately $20 MX pesos. What you have in your hand is an old $100 bill I believe with Venustiano Caranza's effigy on it, probably from 1982 and you can no longer make purchases with it, but it has numismatic value for collectors. Carranza was president of Mexico from 1917 to 1920 during the Mexican Revolution. He was killed on May 21, 1920 in Tlaxcalantongo, Puebla, while he was sleeping. I'm your fan, Greetings from Mexico City.

The ADF is the receiver for an NDB station. There are still NDB approaches, so you need an ADF to shoot those. Practically? I suspect there is a GPS approach now for any of them, but I have not checked. Meanwhile, an ADF is an AM radio receiver, so you can use it over long (and short) distances as an unapproved aid to (i.e. VFR) navigation with the feature that you can listen to the ballgame on it. I lived in Naples, Fl. for 20 years, defense machinist that had to eat between gov't contracts. One job was managing an a/c wholesaler for contractors. One customer had a small airplane, a silver pretty little wing on top like a Cessna that had 2 seats, one for pilot and another seat behind pilot. Tiny cockpit.. The owner was elderly, his kids weren't interested in the airplane at all, he couldn't fly because of disabilities. I would stare at it every chance imagining flying it. He offered it to me IF I obtained my license and we worked on it together. He had engines still on a pallet ready to install. I was very interested until I learned the expenses involved just getting to solo. Then the inspections and parking fees and cost of fuel. I already had more interests and hobbies I couldn't support. This was late 1970's, I've often wondered what could have been if I'd followed thru.

Jimmy, I'm sorry to say that you're wrong on military pilot equivalency. In your example, a B-1 Pilot can take his flight records to the local FSDO and walk out with a Commercial Pilot Certificate with Multi-engine and Instrument ratings. Depending on whether they flew the T-6 or the T-37 in UPT, and what they flew in the Air Force after training, they might not get a single engine rating on that Commercial ticket. What they don't get is the Airline Transport Pilot Certificate. So that B-1 Pilot can fly your twins without additional licenses or checkrides, but they can't go to an airline without an ATP Checkride.

ADF. When i was flying, it meant automatic direction finder. I used it many times as a long distance, depending on altitude, guide for a general heading, to fly to AM radio stations, until i found th VOR I wanted. Love your videos and your terrible daddy sense of humor.

Hey, Jimmy - I'm feeling generous today. I want to donate that $.01 component of your fuel cost. I just need to make sure I can get a receipt for my taxes. 😂 Loving the series. Can't wait to see the blue beauty fly.

On the back if the shirt in that green - - "If your going to do something wrong, Make sure you do it Wright!!( Some Hank Hill and a Orville and Wilbur reference tossed in). Jimmy, Love your page and thank you for all of the amazing content. Unfortunately, I had my flying career cut short many years ago when my flight school got wiped out during the Nashville flood of 2010 and at almost 62, those days have passed I fear. Keep up the great work and if you ever find yourself up in Saint Cloud, there is an open offer for a cup of coffee and a cheeseburger (probably not a $100 cheeseburger but we will see)!! Have a great day.

An ADF is an "Automatic Direction Finder" and works ith an "NDF" - "Non-DIrECTIONal BeACon"- and there are lots of those still operational in small, rural, private airstrips over the MidWest,
