Holy crap! You made me feel good about my 2000 xlt!!!! The very back of mine is rusted behind the suspension shackle and hangar. Pretty much where the hitch attaches to the frame.

Yes it was really rusted bad, but the truck only has 58 k on it so it was worth rebuilding the frame.

Great job man, I love how you did the crossbeam for the fuel tank. I also did some frame work on my ranger during lockdown. Cheers

There is a place in Barberton Ohio called SOUTHERN IMPORTS. I ordered a cradle for my Toyota 2001 and I also ordered a frame for my Silverado. They get them from salvage/used parts from cars in the south where they are not rusted but super cheap. The cradle for my Toyota Highlander was only $235. It looked new and black and nice! I live in Akron Ohio and the salt is brutal here! In Alaska, where I lived for 7 years they only do sand instead of salt and my cars never rusted. Now I used a rust converter and spray Fluid Film and so far my new truck is still shiny after four years!

Exemplary work! Very impressive. I wish I had all of the facilities available to me that you possess. However, all of that work was, in my opinion, excessive and consumed way too much time. It would have been far easier to order a rear frame section from a southern wrecking yard and just replace the entire assembly. While doing so you could add extra braces if you wish or any other improvements you desire. Also, you could treat the entire new frame to advanced rust proofing and protection. Of course, it's your truck so do as you please. Again, you do outstanding work so be proud of your success. NOTE: I have been informed that the cross member above the fuel tank is no longer available from Ford.

You would've saved yourself a TON of work and time just by purchasing a junkyard rear frame section. The Ranger used a two-piece frame and the rear section seems to be made from inferior steel compared to the front frame half. If you already had the rivets removed from the front leaf spring hanger, then the rear frame section was ready to slip off and be replaced.

That's a lot of work. I just acquired a used rear frame for my 01 for $125 bucks. I had it sandblasted for $225. I am waiting for some paint and I have 8 more rivets to grind off. on the driver's side. Hopefully back together in a few weeks.

I feel you you guys up there where ever you are ….cause mt trucks in Florida look brand new ……I have never changed a rusted brake line in my life…….and to see that chassis wasted wow….anyway…..the trick down in fla if you live by the beach…is to get a 5 dollar squirt can and fill it with transmission fluid. And squirt that fluid everywhere everywhere everywhere. Inside chassis outside. Several times a year before winter so it’s well protected It’s messy messy and a dirty job…but it works and it’s cheap….inside doors…brake lines. Chassis..not muffler…fenders ….above spare tires..do it in summer and fall on nice days Several tines. Tranny fluid does not hurt rubber seal…body mounts…don’t be cheap….do it on the grass..

Where did you get the hoses for the dad's filler. Also was there any problems with the leaf spring mounts being spaced out due to the extra plate?

@mojoo1012 3 жыл бұрын
O'Reilly Auto Parts i took the old ones off took them in found something close cut it put it on, everything fit good never had any problem. 1 second ago I used 3/16 i believe you can go as far as 1/4 before you start to put tension on the frame. Simple because you are adding to the existing frame so you must add the thickness of it as well. I hope that answers your question.

WOW. And I thought the frame on my '97 was bad! Your's is far worse OP! Great video. BTW what sort of welder would be good for this purpose? I took a welding class in trade school many years ago but haven't welded since. Been thinking of doing the same to my Ranger but hiring a welder to come over for the welding part, unless buying a welding machine might be the better way to go?

To be honest i don't remember, i took measurements from the old part. I took it out put it on flat ground measured length then height width then put it on the frame then drilled the holes.
