Good job Hamza. What I did when I modded scirocco R is put some Macan callipers and two piece brake disks. Add in some OZ hlt (the ultralight ones) wheels and you shave nearly 20 pounds of unsprung weight. Massive increase in handling and definitely worth it on a front wheel car rather than going all horsepower and losing traction all the time

Hi seen someone else mention the macan callipers.. is that of the 2.0 lt ? Looking at upgrading my tts brakes

A few years ago VAG centralised component manufacturing. So instead of castings being made in Germany, Spain or wherever, they are all cast in Slovakia. Components are then sent from the various factories to assembly plants in Germany, Spain, Crewe etc.

Pretty sure you can call yourself a mechanic now mate. Cam belts, timing chains, you're tackling some pretty high level jobs, not to mention you're about to rebuild the front end of a Scirocco 🤣 Huge props to you for getting stuck in about it.

One small tip, timing belts usually have timing marks on them so you can line them up with your timing marks on your cam and crank pulleys. Looks like you made your own which also works, but generally the belt will have them from the factory which can let you know quickly if you're off a tooth.

Hey TR, Nice and informative vid as always! Regarding the balancer shaft delete, yeah they troublesome oil pumps. What I did on my BWA is remove the complete what I like to call a shoebox oil pump. I then removed the chain gear on the crank and "socket pressed" a gear from a Mk4 gti Engine with a mk 4 oilpump and tensioner. Then blocked off the oil return of the shoebox pump with a bolt so there is no pressure loss. Complete oil pump deleted. Engine is more responsive and feel somewhat that it spins up faster. Only thing now that it occupies more oil. 6l thereabout. Fyi for when you want to tackle this sometime again. Cheers mate

It was serviced at Arnold Clark when it had the belt by the looks of it and they don’t authorise techs to replace the water pump unless it’s leaking so seeing an original pump does not shock me (I used to work at a Arnold Clark dealer)

@tomwhit1982
@tomwhit1982 Жыл бұрын
@TRHamza yes no cutting and just the welding of the two prop bearing mounts. I did the wiring beforehand and using a gen5 haldex from a yeti for some reason as it still uses the pq35 based canbus over the other mqb gen5 systems (although looking back on it best to go gen4 with the filter as you know the gen5 are a bit more needy with servicing). Give us a shout if you have any questions 👍
